Engine light issue

Hello All,

Its been a week since i got a pre-owned RX8 2004 model. I have done 1000kms on it so far without any issues but yesterday lunch time, i started the car and the engine check light came on (it was not flashing) and the car would start jerking at around 3000 revs, almost like a fuel cut-out. In the evening i tightened the fuel tank cap and it was perfectly fine with the CEL off and the car responding well. But today morning when i started the car it came on fine and drove well until i took the rev,s to around 5,000 and it started the same problem again.

I am based in Kenya and Mazda does not service Rx8's here so i will need all the help i can get.

by the way its been a little cold here in Kenya tempratures of 15 degrees centigrade. Another things is that the oil pressure shows slightly above the center mark

You need an OBD II code reader to see what code is causing the check engine light. The symptoms sound like they could be caused by bad ignition components or a faulty fuel pump.

Thanks for your message. I am actually getting a OBD 2 ELM327 Bluetooth CAN BUS Interface possibly today. Thats the only one available locally.

I am new to these things but i doubt its the fuel pump as the throttle behaves with the clutch slightly pressed in. I know this may wear out my clutch and i am trying to avoid that.

Update. I did a diagnosis and the error code was P2127. On this blog it shows as the APP sensor No.2 circuit low input ON 1 CCM ´ (See DTC P2127 ) but on the diagnosis it shows as Oxygen sensor fault

it is for the accelerator pedal position sensor. you need to verify that you have 5 volts to either side of the APP sensor. if you do the sensor needs replaced if not then you have a pcm issue

you'll want to look around further in that link and book mark it for the future

Just did the diagnosis with torque pro for android and it has indicated a low voltage on APP sensor 2. Zoom44, thanks for the advice. Where can i not get a spare sensor to replace immediately? is it possible to by-bass the sensor until i replace the sensor? Would other Mazda's have a similar sensor? The Mazda 6 is quite common in Kenya and parts are readily available.

The oil pressure "gauge" is fake. It has only 3 positions, based on a switch, not a true pressure sensor. Though Zoom44 is probably right, try disconnecting and cleaning the electrical connectors before spending money - Kenya tends to have fine dust blowing around which gets into everything.

we need ash8 or paul from mazmart to double check the part numbers to be sure. oh hold on i was gonna call paul anyway

and no dont bypass it. its drive by wire controlling the throttle.

zoom44 06-06-2012 03:15 PM

no they dont share with 6 only mx-5s and rx-8. ill be talking with paul some more later and will update or you can pm him directly https://www.rx8club.com/members/mazmart-8207/

Cheers for the help. For some reason the CEL has gone off and hasnt come back on since i tried to check if the cables were tightened properly. I am going to have a proper look at it on Saturday.

get some canned air and blow out the connectors :)
