engine high pressure problem

Hello, first of all, WOW, what an awesome forum you have here...
really hope you can help me , and if I post this in the wrong place I am sorry, I am not used to your forum, ...

anyway, I have got an RX8 imported from japan , To QATAR, ....

and I had this problem , that no one here can fix it, as they are not familiar with rx8s, it's only 8-10 rx8s in Qatar ...

the main problem is the engine pressure, it's so high, that the coolant bottle keep leaking, and seems that it will explode, I took it to mane garages , but no one seems to know what is wrong, ...and it's been a while ....I really want to get that car back to the streets..

The car is a 2005 RX8 with 32K KM only, all stoke , no modification " only bodyktis and so, but pure engine" .... the car was parked for a long time in my home, like almost a year,.... "will tell you why later ... some how it's a funny story hahah "

so, I really need your help to know where to start , what could make this pressure... and how can I fix it,

we thought that the bottle is damaged so we custom made an aluminum bottle,... and, it was going to explode also....

** I thought it might be the hot weather, as Qatar is so hot in the summer, but now it's somewhat cold about 8-16 degrees , and still have the same problem**

Is it overheating?

Check the water pump and thermostat :)

have you checked for any leaks in the system?

ked263 12-31-2011 02:05 PM

hi, thanks for the reply,
I am sorry I forget to list that I changed the radiator with aluminum radiator 3 rows, also separated oil coolant system... I forget to list that as I did that long time ago and forget about it..

anyway, I already checked and get new pump, thermostat, also new coolant cap "stronger one"...

about the problem, to give more info...

the engine starts ok, normal heat... then after some time, I can see the coolant is been pushed from that pressure, and start to leak from the coolant bottle THEN and only then the engine start to overheat...

it's like there is a some air is going into the coolant cycle , I am not sure from where, which increase the pressure and heat the coolant

a photo for my RX8... really wish to drive it again :(

Your choices are limited ;)

It is either overheating...or you have a coolant seal leak in the compression area that is allowing combustion pressure to leak into the cooling system

I would still think it would be the thermostat...so a check with an IR thermometer when it is heating up will tell you if it opens or not. Does the radiator get warm? Fans come on at idle when it is warm?

put a stoick cap back on . No way can pressure build up unless the cap is not venting - that is what it is designed to do .

and "too high pressure" means absolutely nothing, put a gauge on it and give us a number with units

better yet, get a knowledgeable, properly equipped mechanic to do a proper pressure check on the cooling system, which will tell you a lot based on the results

What color is the coolant?

ked263 01-04-2012 11:06 AM

ok, so far, we are working on the coolant lines to see if there is anyproblem with it , also going to see "soon" if there is any problem with the gaskits on the engine, but after we finish of the coolant line .

Thank you all guy for all the help, will keep you updated :D

Check the cooling fans.

Are the radiator cooling fans working? It does not sound like they are turning on at all.
