Engine failure
My engine died, and now it won't start. It cranks but it doesn't start. The battery is fine. I just had it charged. I tried the push start method, but every time it does turn over it doesn't stay on. Sometimes it idles after the push start, but when I step on the gas, the rpm goes down and the engine dies. I ended up having it towed to my house. It may be a flooded engine but idk. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Please give us the history on your car. The service it's had parts replaced. Type of driving it gets(long commutes, short trip), fuel used(reg or prem), ever flooded. Just any thing that you can add. What mods...

Need a bit more.....could be anything from ignition or fuel pump...

did you turn your car on then moved it for a bit and then shut it off?

It's an 05 stock base model, manual transmission, I've had the lack of power recall done when I got it some time last year, I've had oil changes done by the dealership every 3k miles, but the past two I've done myself with castrol gtx 5W-20 and mobil 1 oil filter, checked oil regularly, made sure there's enough oil between gas fill ups, which is always 91 premium, I let it warm up before turning it off, this is the first time it flooded, I drive it often and redline it once in a while, I put about 10k miles this past year, I took it to inland drift and tried to do some donuts on the track there, I was doing donuts for a few minutes when it gave up on me.
The gas was near empty right after I had it towed, but then now it says I'm at a quarter tank somehow. I wasn't moving it at the time, I think it was the donuts that killed the engine, I should have mentioned that in the first post. |

Right now it's sitting at 43,405 miles. But I don't know if it's still under warranty because I bought it used. I'll try to find out by calling long beach mazda tomorrow, since their service hours are closed today.

i currently have the same problme with my o4 rx8 touring 70k miles and just clutch, flywheel, replaced. new spark plugs, new battery and all wireing replaced. i drove it to chicago and back from seattle washington, it was fine for the whole trip, then it sat for two weeks while i was working i comeback and it dosent start. checked all fuses and they all looking good. i tried the flooded engine start process and nothing. i dont have the means to take it to anybody right now, im just looking for some ideas that might be wrong with it. anything would be greatly appricated!

Is it turning over and just not starting? Is the battery just too week to turn it over? Did you turn it off when it was cold? It could be flooded. We need more info. Have the coils ever been replaced? |
Doing donuts while your gas is low?
Thanks, you just killed your engine. Long story is, stock pump sucks. It go bad faster than you think. Works for regular driving. But not good for constant crazy stuff. When it does not supply enought fuel + donut's constant high rpm = running lean + heats up faster than you think = kaboom. It could be just bad fuel pump. Its easy to test it. Remember this is a street car. Do more reserach before you do stupid stuff with it |
I dont know if the coils have ever been replaced, i diddent turn it off when it was cold. battery was just replaced. the car has a quarter tank of gas. every thing acts like it should, it cranks, but dosent turn over. i havent done any doughnuts or anything just a trip to chicago and back from seattle. my best guess says fuel pump only cuz the spark plugs and battery were just replaced and ran fine for awhile before this happend. i havent tried push starting it. i took the tubing that goes fom the back of the air filter to the throttle body and it had a gas smell to it which makes me think it might be flooded. what would the process be to test the fuel pump? could it be a bad starter? im going to end up repacing the fuel pump anyway i think it will be better in the long run

pull your plugs and clean them spartan. do the whole de-flood procedure. clean you MAF etc and then make sure the battery is FULL. push/pull start it

alnielsen, thanks for the offer but currently i am in silverdale about to be transfered to north carolina trying to get my 8 ready for that ride lol. i currently am in the process of replacing my fuel pump. i had an old one anyway so i thought i should just do it. i just like five min ago got the fuel pump casing out of my car so ill let you know how it goes.

So I'm going to replace the starter, fuel pump, checked the spark plugs. the engine was flooded. Well I have the old starter and old fuel pump so I'm going to replace them anyway. Can anyone point me in the direction where I can find the correct fuel pump, starter, spark plugs, and coils? I think I have the correct fuel pump I'll get the link for that later. But as for the other two I could use a little help to find them
