Electrical Problem HELP!!!

OK...

Heres the specifics...

-2007 AT 19,000 Miles
-Door Ajar light and locks started to flicker rapidly on and off while driving.
-Fuse #12 (Interior Lights) Burnt out...Radio, Interior Lights, and Alarm dont work
-Changed fuse thinking it was the problem...and the Door Ajar n locks flicker again...then fuse burns again.

Anywho, I took my car into the dealer and they said that after hooking it up to the computer...that it was my battery (had bad cells). So they change it ($110) and they had reset my cars computer. After 7 hours of my car being at the dealers...They say its finished and ready to go.....when I get into my car....ITS STILL THE SAME!!! WTF!???

The mechanics had gone for the day and I was told to come back again when I have time...

Pls HELP!! If anyone has any comments or suggestions it'd be very helpful and apprecaited. THANKS!!!

Well.......you probably have a short somewhere. Fuse would never cause a problem like that.
Have you done any aftermarket wiring in the last couple of months? If so......look at that real closely.
This is a stretch, but have you taken out the door switch and given it a look?

step one- call Ghostbusters.
step two- problem solved.

Fuses burn out for a reason and the root cause must be addressed. If not you'll just burn more fuses. Fuses themselves rarely go bad for no reason.

I won't argue a marginal battery, but that would seem to me to be coincidental and not the cause.

I've had my passenger side door lock/light flicker due to the plunger switch on the suicide door not fully engaging. It's very intermittant for me so I just cycle the switch when it happens. Some day I'll replace it myself as the dealer indicates it has to be happening when in for service so they can read it on their diagnostic (BS as far as I'm concerned as it's obviously the switch itself, but sometimes there's no dealing with dealers).

My case doesn't burn the fuse so it would seem that you're getting an intermediate short somewhere in your lock/light wiring harness.

Hope they resolve for you.

No aftermarket wiring at all since my alarm install when i bought the car 2 years ago...I figured it was a short somewhere after the fuse blew again...

thanks

I did check the plunger switch on both doors...and they seem to work fine....***After i changed the fuse the first time...the problem seemed like it went away till i put my car in reverse then all the flickering started up again...lasted for a while till the fuse blew the second time...

Ill have the mechanics check the lock/light before going full on tracing n searching...

Thanks!

Funny, mine is the drivers side switch and has no effect on door locks and/or courtesy lights, but it does effect my footwell LED lights that are hanging off the old timer from the Mazda footwell lamps. They will time out and dim very quickly even with the door still open(remember no effect on the courtesy lights or any other) this happens now unless I kinda reach down and re-plunge the switch with my finger one time...then they will remain on for about 5 minutes or until the door is closed and then they dim with the courtesy lights..........Go figure???.........I think it's just dirty contacts. I'll check it out one of these days and I think a new switch is only like $10.00

Sorry for the tangent, let's get the thread back on track. Still must be a short somewhere!

Brettus 01-27-2010 02:02 PM

i'd wager it is just a switch with intermittent contact - Try taping the door switch knobs down so they can't move then see if it still does it .........

Or it could be the alarm.

Many installs are bad and after time the wires short out against the frame.

That was my first thought when trying to figure this thing out...they seem to work fine...and since i blew two fuses....im sure its more than just the switches

Thanks

***UPDATE***

Well my cars fixed now...the mechanic supervisor found the problem and it was fixed right away...

Turns out that the weight sensor on the passenger side had some loose wiring touching stuff...and thats where the shorting was coming from. Now my car looks good to go!

did u have a mechanic at a dealer fix it??
i have a flickering of the alarm icon and wont let my car start sometimes.
i thought it would be a short somewhere but i am hesitant to go to a dealer..

Yeah the dealers fixed it...took two days to find it cuz I guess these kind of electrical problems are hard to find...but its all good now.
