ECU replacement?

Hi
can the REMANUFACTURED ECU
Part Number: N3ZD18881R0J
fit in my 04 mt 6 speed rx8 with an ecu part number n3h6 18881m?

Probably, but ECU's are almost never replaced so there may be stuff I don't know. Why do you need to replace it?

In any event, you will need Mazda to program the new ECU to work with the ignition key module, as the ECU also contains the immobilizer.

Also, 1 post is enough ;)

Hi Loki,
I was installing new radiator fans and tried a fan mod i saw on youtube. Unfortunately I connected a ground wire to the wrong connection on the fan 1 relay and got a spark. Went to turn on my car and got the *______****** pattern that means communication error between keyless control module and pcm. everyone suggested the pcm was fried but i had a locksmith come out and try to reprogram the car. he could erase and add keys but not get the car to start.

I then called my local mazda dealership and they said the pcm goes out on 04's all the time. he also said to check for a purple and white wire going to the hood latch? I couldnt find it. anyone know what hes talking about? I haven't seen anything electrical by the hood latch although im sure it is there. I only saw the airbag impact sensor.

I also did some fuse checking with my multimeter. I found that
*tail 10a had a 0 volt reading
*illum 10a had a 0 volt reading
*engi comp 2 had a 2.01 reading

I also got a 0 volt reading from the following
head
head low l
head low r

I understand that if the new ecu matches the old ecu ( N3H618881m) I will only need to program new keys... Can this be confirmed? Many opinions...

anyway im not sure it's the ecu actually. Just kinda hoping it works lol... this car is bringing out my crazy. So i think i may have fried a wire or few according to those readings.

Anyone have any idea what that engi comp 2 2.01 voltage means?

∩__∩∩∩∩∩∩____ = Communication error between the keyless control module and the PCM (no response or mismatched conditions)

what now???

What position is the key in when you get those voltages?
The relays for all those things would be open when the car is off, so the 0s make sense.

It's possible the EVAP leak pump is active at all times, my neighbour's car cycles the emissions control system all on its own while the car is off.

I was going to say perhaps a fuse blew when you shorted the fan relay to ground. Thr ECU is on the IGN fuse as I recall.

If you talked to Mazda, they should be able to tell you which ECU part number is compatible with which car.

iT WAS egi coMP 2 ... thE FIRST TIME I CHECKED IT TI DIDN'T APPEAR TO BE BLOWN. WELL I DECIDED TO SWAP IT WITH THE TAIL 10A AND SAW THAT IT WAS DISINTEGRATED. wELL AFTER SWITCHING IT THE CAR STARTED RIGHT UP.... sORRY FOR CAPS
