Easy technical question need answer

Hello,

I'm currently looking into buying a car and yesterday I went and test drive a RX-8 2005 Shinka Edition. I really enjoy the driving experience and the rotary engine so I'm really considering buying it. Since them I've read around the forum during the past

The car currently have 64k miles and the current owner seem to have taken car of it (he seems to know the rotary engine and what you have to do, he sell rhd car and have owned rx-7). The bad thing is that he only have owned the car for the past 6 month and I don't know the owner before him...

After test driving the car I came with a few interogation about it.

When I first start the car, the idle fastly went to 3k rpm and then down to 2k and "slowly" to the normal idle rpm. He said that it's because it was cold outside (make sense, it's just when it first went to 3k that I was wondering..).

During the test drive, I notice that the stick was shacky when I was in neutral at a red light. He told me it was normal for those car so I was wondering if this was true?

Are those 2 things normal, something I should look at, a sign that the engine might have a problem... ?

Lastly, it's not a technical question but something I was wondering. I've read about the 100k miles warranty on the engine but I wanted to know if it was also available in Canada up to 160 000km (I will call the Mazda dealer tomorow to make sure but today it's close)

Thanks for the answer
I hope I'll soon be part of the 8 club :)

PS : Sorry for my english, my mother language is french...

Je parle un petit français. But your English is better than my French. ;)

Yes, it is normal to idle a bit high until warmup.

There is an amount of stick vibration in any manual transmission. It's hard to know what you consider to be abnormal shaking though.

The 8 year/100k miles drivetrain warranty is a Mazda North America coverage so it should apply.

Take the Shinka to your local dealer or a trusted mechanic if you're still unsure. It's always best to have knowledgeable hands-on prior to a sale.

Do you still get a 100,000 drivetrain warranty even if the vehicle is used?
