dropped piece of engine oil foil from jug down oil filler tube

Hey guys. I feel like a complete dumbass. I checked the oil today on my 8 and it was needing a bit. So I went to add some and a piece of foil the size of a dime fell off the jug and into the oil filler tube. What should I do?!?! I'm afraid to start the car now. Thanks for any help I greatly appreciate it.

I'm no expert, but after listening to years of "Car Talk," my hunch – just my hunch, mind you – is that nothing bad will happen. Curious, but have you shined a flashlight into the tube? Maybe you can see it, fish it out somehow.

Thanks for the response!! I shined an LED light down it and seen nothing. Put my fingers down it as far as they'll go.. nothing.. I'm about to take off the oil neck and see if she's in there. Hopefully it is and I can get it out. I'm still pretty new to the 13b. Idk if it goes straight to the oil pump or what.. I do know the foil is pretty brittle. I figured best case if I can't find it the heat would disenegrate it. Of course this is wishful thinking

It may float on top of the oil in the engine, may have a hard time getting it out if you change oil yourself, but you can keep an eye for it as it drained; then again, if you have the shop flush it, they may not look for that foil you dropped. Is the foil close to a size of a dime? The heat will not break it apart but I would be paranoid if that happened to me, like New Yorker mentioned, I would not worry just try to think and hope it drops down the oil pan and gets drained the next time your change your oil. May be premix by installing a SOHN adapter would help :dunno: so it doesn't clog your oil lines?

Thanks for the response!!! I change the oil myself. The oil was changed not to long ago by myself. What is the SOHN that you speak of? Sorry still new to all of this. The foil that dropped in was about the size of a dime maybe slightly bigger I didn't get a perfect look at it. If I can't find it, what are the possibilities of it blowing a motor? I hope this wouldn't happen as I am looking to turbo this beast Lol.

drop a small piece of foil in oil reservoir, buy and install sohn adapter.... I thought I'd heard/read it all.

If you're that concerned about it, drop your oil pan. It'll likely make its way up to your filter at some point and just hang out there.

Under load our oil pressure exceeds 60 psi. It's going to do some traveling but I wouldn't worry too much about it.
