Disappointment in dealer + rattles

Hi Everyone,

Let me share a sad experience with you about Morries Mazda in Minneapolis.

I have had the car for a little over a year now and have taken it to said delaer for rattling issues numerous times. (I have posted about the ratlles a couple of times already). They always claimed to have not heard any rattles in the car. I kept insisting that the rattles are present otherwise I would not bother them with the same issue over and over again. I have finally come to the conclusion that I will switch to another dealer of which people had talked highly. I had other reasons, too, besides the rattles. Before doing so, I of course had sent a "nice" e-mail to Morries' management team about by dissatisfaction. They offered to detail my car for free. For God's sake, I need my car FIXED, I CAN detail it myslef. In fact, I even enjoy doing that.

Today I went to another dealership (Brookdale Mazda) for an oil change, revised brake pads, PCM recall and the rattles in the passenger door. The car was ready to pick up 3 hours later. The brake pads are on back order but they promised to give me a call as soon as they got the pads. So that is ok.

The rattles, they could not hear them so I explained that the car needed to cool down and then it would rattle. So the service guy played with it a little and was able to reproduce the noise. But now it is not covered under warranty because my car is already 14 months old and Mazda only guarantees rattle freeness for 12 months.

Conclusion: Morries had not been able to fix it since the car was 4 months old. The new dealership found the issue right the FIRST time I reported it. But the warranty is over. I am stuck with this. Morries screwed it up.

What do you guys suggest doing? I am pissed big time at Morries and I want compensation. Would Morries not having been able to fix the car after several occassions qualify the car for the lemon law? Or how could I squeeze Morries a little? I can not believe how they can keep any customer.

Thanks for your input,
Erik

Never heard that one before...

So they are basically telling you the rattle falls under the "adjustment" portion of the warranty?

As far as I know the tech/dealer can get up to .9 just to diagnose a rattle under a labor type called NVH diag.

This is not included in the adjustment period..it is for the entire warranty.

WHAT???? That is BS! The warranty is bumper-to-bumper!

Thanks guys for the replies.

So what is it then? Before I go and complain at Morries, I would like to know what the coverage is. Is it really just one year on squeeks and rattles or the entire warranty period.

SHould I ask Mazda NA?

Thanks,
Erik

i believe what was writen above say that diagnosis can be covered but fixing what is found may not be. so the labor for finding the cause should be covered.

I'm just curious, what was the rattle? Would it be hard to fix? Are there damaged parts?

Erik's8 12-17-2004 02:27 PM

There are no damaged parts, the car is in perfect condition, I have taken a very good care of it from day one. I have rattle from everywhere: instruments cluster, dashboard, passanger side door, passenger seat, rear speaker area. I have reported all of them to this dealership. Yesterday I pointed out the one in the passanger side door because that is the worst. Every rattle comes at a different temperature and probably humidity level. but there is at least one present at all times.

That would be annoying!

speaking of rattles...
i left the car at mazda 2 days ago for the 15,000 mile servicing. when i left it i also left them the TSB on the rattle noise from the steering wheel airbag area. in the receipt it states -- "customer states rattle from steering wheel area. noise from center panel. removed center panel and secure/insulate end tabs. reassembled and recheck for noise."
as i was driving home today from picking it up, the same exact rattle came back again! just as loud and obnoxious as before. im extremely disappointed with denville mazda in jersey right now.

and yes, rattles/squeeks are covered under warranty for location and repair for more than 12 months. i know this considering ive got 15,220 on mine and it was all free.

I could be wrong once again, but I don't believe the rattles are covered that long. KMG, the only reason I believe yours were covered was because of the TSBs. If there are some other rattles (such as the doors, etc.) they probably won't be covered for the full extent of the warany unless the dealership just does you a favor.

I claim NVH diag on cars at least twice a week..Mazda pays the bill. Not the customer

I ran a rear hatch adjustment operation on a 38k car last week.

The dealer can get it covered. All they need to do is run it.

Im glad to hear Im not the only one who's car sounds like a f@#$ing Kia and has trouble getting it fixed at the dealer. All but once, it's just a "uh, we can't hear it" thing. Hell, I even found one of them for them, pointed it out, and they still wouldn't fix it because the damn thing "wouldn't make the noise" when they had the car.

When all the rattles and squeaks strike up that horrible symphony for an hour to/from work, I really wish I would've just bought an IS300...

jinani4eva 12-22-2004 12:27 PM

I went in for rattle sound I had on passenger side, too.
The service guy said same thing as yours did. "Sqeaks and rattles are for 12 months only".
But the guy was nice enough to work on it though.
Bad thing is... the guy said he worked on it and I see it on the work order sheet that he tightened the screws... but I still hear rattles.
I think it may not be from the door pannel but a plastic cover near foot rest on right side, but didn't get to check it though.

snap, what's NVH?

good luck getting dealers to fix rattles.. every time I've tried to get dealers to fix rattles, it seems they blow it off.. oh we couldnt hear anything, blah blah.. I hate that..

It's probably just the dealers in my area..

noise vibration and harshness.

I just had my car in for a 15,000 KM Service, and I mentioned a rattle in the driver's side door. They actually opened the door, replaced the window regulator (!!!), and the rattle's gone away.

when i first bought the 8 i was talking to a third gen rx-7 owner and he told me i would be fixing this car constantely, its a Mazda! i laughed him off but now i regret doing so. especially after my stereo, a/c and clutch have broken and mazda wont fix them. i only have 7000 miles on the car! i love the car but sometimes i wish i still had my isuzu trooper. i was never more ruff on a vehicle then i was to that and it never wimpered or shuttered. well it shuttered after a hard landing while off roading but it was tough.
