AT Disappearing LED Display

After almost a month at the body shop (due to a damaged rear fender) I got the following...

My '8 does not show current gear at panel while it is stopped. After releasing the breaks the LED display will lit and show current gear (4AT) whenever I lightly step on the breaks again, the LED display will blink. If I stop the car, the LED display will turn off and even remain unlit. While the display is unlit, the car seems to stay in 2nd shift (no shifting)....

any Ideas??

swoope come correct me if I'm wrong, but could it be a dying battery?

Preliminar diagnosis

Day 1 @dealer...

They hook'd the computer to the car, systems and trans are ok. Technician suspects electrical failure at the stop lights wiring.

...remember I told you about the body shop? Current theory is that the body shop screwed the wiring when putting back the stop lights.

Day 2 @dealer

Technician is sure there is an electrical failure, has the tech drawings but cannot locate faulty cable/connection. Will call reinforcements from another dealer for tomorrow.

Day 3 @dealer

Second technician finds the culprit. Bad wiring resulting from the body shop work done. Argh! Not covered by warranty. And the car will not be ready until next day. Argh!
