:suspect: Jorge is onto us...

chino0314 10-08-2010 04:34 PM

lol im trying to start mine :/ and the little light on the dash with the car witha key in it keep flashing....
do the rx8s have some sort of kill switch ?

Jedi54 10-08-2010 04:35 PM

what pattern is it flashing with?
sounds like an issue with the immobilizer; might be a blown fuse.

chino0314 10-08-2010 04:36 PM

just constant flashing no pattern....

xun4gvn4everx 10-08-2010 04:37 PM

Yea, I would def suggest starting with the fuses. It's the cheapest and easiest fix, if in fact a fuse is the issue.

Jedi54 10-08-2010 04:38 PM

how many times is it flashing?
I'm asking because I was reading the service manual recently and based on the number of times it blinks and the pauses in between, you can help diagnose the issue.

have a copy of the service manual?
if not, let me know.

chino0314 10-08-2010 04:39 PM

i do not have a copy :/

chino0314 10-08-2010 04:42 PM

lmao legally purchased also its continuous flashing doesnt stop

Jedi54 10-08-2010 04:42 PM

allow me to consult my manual and I'll get back to you.

Jedi54 10-08-2010 04:43 PM

is the key icon flashing rapidly non-stop?

If its a continuous and consistent flash pattern, that might point to the immobilizer itself.
You could try to disconnect the battery for ~10min and reconnect, then see what happens.
Sometimes a good "reboot" helps.

If you have a 2nd key, give it a try too.
Even though it doesn't match the flash pattern, its something else quick and easy to rule out.

chino0314 10-08-2010 05:03 PM

ok tried both keys and nothing
rebooted the car last night
continuous flashing for about a minute and then it flashes 20 times with a 4-5 second break between flashes.. then stops flashing completely

Jon316G 10-08-2010 05:07 PM

Curious... when was the last time you had the car started?

chino0314 10-08-2010 05:09 PM

last week thursday

Jon316G 10-08-2010 05:12 PM

Might sound a little strange, but can you test the battery voltage?
Possible that the battery is drained and is only supplying enough to illuminate a few lights.

chino0314 10-08-2010 05:13 PM

checked that already 12.30v

Jon316G 10-08-2010 05:25 PM

Damn... well, can't think of anything else besides the immobilizer components.
And with replacing those, you'll need the dealer to perform it anyway to register them to the keys.
Wish there was something else I could recommend trying...
