Diagnostic shows: Problem with COIL A & C
Hi there,
I started the engine to come at work and the CHECK ENGINE lamp went on. I checked it with a OBD2 Scanner and it said that there is problem with COIL A & C. i cleared the problems and the check engine light went off. I rescanned my car and it doesnt show any problems now. It has 45k KM on it.. around 28K miles. :uhh: Will i have to replace them? :banghead: How many coils does our cars has on it?:Eyecrazy: Anyone to give me the instructions on how to replace ? :Eyecrazy: |
Replacing the coils is easy. There's 4 and they're about $30 a piece from Trussville mazda. I believe there's a DIY on replacing them.
What's your build date? The 04's had the most problems with the coils. Mine went out at 42k miles. |

it is a 2003 japanese model.
.. when it was with the check engine lamp on, i put the OBD2 diagnostic tool, i run the checks and it came up with a problem on ignition coil a & c, i donot remember the exact prob. |

i ve got check engine again so its definately a prob.
#P0353 with scangauge2 |
P0353 ? u sure u got it right ?
|
That would be a coil #3 circuit fault, People need to learn their OBDII codes...
Probably a dead coil. Very common, for the price replace the coil. It could be something else but i doubt it. If you dont have access to Mazda Diag then replace the coil and see if the code comes back. |

i ve got P0351 and P0353, i have asked the guys from ScanGaugeII page,
and they told me that it means is the coil circuit A & C. Most possibly the coils as they have this illness on rx8s. I am replacing them next week. Bought from onlinemazdaparts new set. |
i will revert once i replace the coils and let you know if scangauge is correct.
|
Funny that it is a valid code for it to throw. Real funny since titaniumgr3y's 8 set the code...
|
why is it funny?
the only funny thing is that i got the check engine light for more than a week now and i didnt have anything strange on my car's behavior. Is this how is starting? from engine light and then probs in behavior? :/ |

Since I just blew a coil 2 weeks ago, I should know there is no coil CEL that pops up, only a rotor misfire code. Once you get to that point, your forced to take the coils out and test them with a multimeter to find out if they are good or not. There is no coil code in this car that tells you if a coil is bad. When my CANscan's program was corrupted a few years ago, I also got miscellaneous codes thrown out when a CEL went off for a stuck SSV valve instead of the right code... |
ok guys,,, as i said it was been more than a week since i had the check engine and two diagnostic tools coming up with the P0351/P0353 with Coil circuit message and there was no problem in engine's behavior.
Yesterday, i rarely felt it on the Sixth gear, it was going very very slow. Then it started doing it continuously, now i ve got it on all gears. Its cutting the power more than half and it makes a very bad noise but it goes back to normal and then again, all the time. I use to have the same on my sister's mazda 323. Coil problem as well and same symptoms. |
I am expecting to have the coils end of this week as i live ine EU and i ve ordered them from US.
I will let you know if the problem is solved. |
the problem here is that, your tool probably gave you the wrong code, P0351/P0353 is not valid code for this car. Unless there's a differents between JDM and US spec cars which I doubt.
Lets just hope its the coils for now ... if its not then I dunno what to say ~ |
nycgps as i told before,, the symptoms are the same with my previous burnt coil experience.
I brought my car to the mechanic and he checked the coil and indeed is burnt, at least the first one,, i have received the new set yesterday night and i am replacing all 4 of them today which we will see if a coil was actually burnt. I ll let you know today. |
let us know !
|
ok guys, we have the answer :)
two of the four were totally burnt and the other two just half burnt. I ve replaced them and my car drives very cool now!! P0351 an P0353 stands for COIL CIRCUITS A & C. |
How do you tell by *half burnt / Fully burnt*
dont tell me because u see the *white marks* on the back, because thats not valid. |

a and c.. wtf?
beers  the time u see random misfire, is the time that your coil might be dead. |
nycgps, i dont know if i am wrong or if you are right,,,,
i know that i had a check engine light on that two diagnostic tools indicated coils a & c (first and third) circuits failed that i had bad engine's behavior, sounded like a truck and performance dropped to minimum and after replacing the first and third coils from left to right, started ok with no check engine light and no bad behavior, everything ok. Anyway i replaced all four of them. |
