Cooling fan turns off with car
 

I've noticed the past couple of weeks the cooling fan isn't running when I shut my car off. I don't have any temp problems but even if I go out and run the hell out of it then park it the fan still doesn't stay on after shutdown. I've searched around and haven't found anything but noobs that freak out when the fan stays ON a few mins after shutdown.

I also have the same issue for a while now. I have moved the relays around and this did not help.

My fan is programmed to kick in at a lower temp however, like yours it may be running at full speed when I park the car however, it shuts off soon after the engine is turned off. If I turn the ignition back on the fan starts again and switches off when I turn the ignition off.

Same issue here, lol. I didn't think much of it until I read this. I wonder if it is an issue or just that our cars are not reaching a temp that the fans need to stay on at?
Maybe the ambient temp has to be above xx degree's for it to engage?

It is supposed to cone on at a set temp and stay on until it cools down. In the past my fan would stay on for several minutes after the engine had stopped.

Even after a track session mine doesn't always keep the fans on. None of my cars do. Actually it turns on more if it hasn't been run hard, since I guess it heat soaks at low speed. Anyway, I think you're fine.

no, there's definitely either a programming difference or some subtle bug some of us experience. For example, 200.mph's fan will run for 3+ minutes after highway riding shutdown. Mine powers off moments after cutting the ignition, and I run hotter.

Mine has always been that way... kinda jealous I didn't get one that'll keep the fans running.

I've always assumed it was just a programming change after 2004... similar to how the older ATs won't show their gear in the digital readout in full auto mode.

Interesting that it is not a set interval. Mine will come on and stay on for quite a while if the engine temp is 207 or higher at shutdown. I have learned that in hot weather that the fans will cool the car at idle to about 203 before it begins to climb again. So I just shut it off at 203. I thought all the 8's did this...guess not.

I can't recall the default Fan A, B, and A+B temperature points off the top of my head.

I do know that lowering them does not change the shutdown behavior.

See I was kinda wondering the same thing. I changed the thermostat and I guess maybe I didn't notice it. I got out of the car one day and didn't hear it and thought damn it's 85 out here and I just ran the hell out of it but no fan? Maybe it was cooling sufficiently enough not to run after shutdown? I've heard of some people having problems with heat soak but I haven't. Even after the fact the fan shuts off with the ignition. If I do it doesn't make the temp rise.

It ran for 5 mins or so before I changed the thermostat. After that I could run the hell out of it and the temp never moved. (Dummy guage. I know I need to get an aftermarket) Like I said above, I just didn't really pay attention until a hot day and REALLY RUNNING IT and drove for maybe 5 or 6 miles at normal driving at 85* and then I noticed. Always shuts down with the car when it didn't before.

My apologies for bumping this thread, but I'm having the same issue and want to see if I need to do more. I have a 2005 with a just-rebuilt motor (158k on the body) and a new Mishimoto rad/fan setup. I also have the Mazperformance fan control kit. Otherwise, it's stock ECU and such.

Everything I've read about the fans says they come on at 185 (for the kit) or 205-ish for stock. My temp gauge confirms this - the fans come ON correctly. The problem is, they aren't supposed to go off until temps drop below a certain threshold, right? Mine turn off less than 10 seconds after I key off, and the ACC trick doesn't work. Even leaving the key ON, the fans will go off after maybe a minute. But in almost all cases, the temp is still around 200. I don't like that one bit. Are there any conditions where the fans should remain on? Why do so many 8 owners complain their fans won't turn off? Thankies!

200F is perfectly acceptable. Nothing bad has ever happened to a Renesis engine as a result of 200F coolant temperatures.

This all sounds normal. People complain their fans won't turn off because their cars are broken. Yours is not, it seems.
