Coolant Light

Any reason why my coolant light will go on and off even though I have plenty of coolant in the bottle? It also stays on longer the hotter the engine gets.

Right now I am also running without my AP because I don't have the right map for my new set up. So I can't keep the water temp down with the fans. Right now she is reaching temps of 215 or higher at idle and 210 or so even when running.

These high temps have only been happening for the past two days or so.... I was running in CA last weekend with great temps while cruising, only 185.

Perfect, thanks!

Keep in mind........IMO(and it's my thread linked) that it's not the source of your water temp problems, just the source of the light going on and off.
You sure both fans are operating?
Could running it without the AP(which I believe turns the fans on sooner) somehow retarded the fan turn temp even more so than stock....meaning it confused the ECU?
Could you have a stuck thermostat?

"I don't have the right map for my new set up".................what is meant by "new" setup. what have you done?

Hey Maz, thanks for chiming in. My new set up is a new engine and new cat. The only map I and on my AP so far was to take advantage of my CAI a little but meant to kill the remainder of my original cat.

I didn't want to kill my new cat with the same map so I haven't married the AP back to the car and am running the latest flash from the dealer. She is running amazing at the moment but her temp is getting kinda high. No I am not entirely sure my fans are working so I need to insure that soon.

I will be working with my tune guy soon to get another map onto my AP that is best suited for the new engine and cat and such. Just haven't had the time to really get in there. Without the AP, if the fans are working is there something else you would suggest for me to check?

I'm not a mechanic, but if you verify both fans are indeed kicking on, then I'd probably search out ways to test the thermostat. I have heard of remans coming with some bad thermostats.
There is a DIY on here......probably by Jon316G on how to check that thermostat.

I'm just thinking that your water temps are pretty freaking high given the conditions you've stated and already noted. I would be concerned.

Might look for pinched hoses? I'm assuming with the reman engine that the coolant is fairly new as well.

Anyone else?????

The fact that I live in the desert might have something to do with it. But yeah, I want this engine to be taken care of so I will be using her sparingly until I can figure out the temps better. I don't know if I got a coolant flush on the reman, that might help too.

Mazurfer 05-07-2011 12:37 PM

Yeah, I know where you are at, but it just still seems high to me.
While not as dry where you are, Fla. gets hot and I rarely see 205 and that's jumping all over it and running the piss out of it, albeit in short spurts! Returning to idle, I'm right back down in that 185-190 range.

If I was driving in high RPM's for long @ss periods of time, I guess I might see 215F or higher. :dunno: But again, that's not what you are doing and/or seeing.

I would never..........ever, see 200F just starting the car and letting it just sit there and idle........don't think it would matter how long I did so.
Although, rest assured, I'm not going to try it for you! :wavey:

Never had this problem yet. Maybe getting a coolant flush soon just in case, summer is coming full speed ahead.
