Is it coolant leaking?

When I opened the hood of my 8 today, I found there is some coolant kind fluid on the plastic cover of the battery and the plastic box on the right hand side of the coolant reservoir. I am not sure if that is the coolant or some kind of oil. I checked the lower side of the hood, no fluid on it. I also checked the coolant reservoir lid, I think it works fine. And the coolant level is nearly full.
Is this some kind of leaking ? Do I need to be worried about that ? Thank you very much! I add pics in the attachments. You can see in the second and last pics, there is some kind of fluid on it. |

That looks more like oil to me. Does it smell like coolant under the hood? If that was coolant, you would definitely be able to smell it. You could wipe it with a napkin or something to see what color it is. Check your oil level too

I didn't smell anything. And I checked the oil level, it seems that the dealer over filled the oil. (bought my rx8 last Thursday). This is my first time check the oil level of the RX8, I attached the dipstick pics.
Thanks Where did you buy the car? |
Honestly, you will need to remove the covers, the air intake box, and may be the battery and tray to get a better view of where it is leaking. It does appear to look more like oil than coolant. If the car dealer over filled it with oil, you have two options: drain some from the oil pan or leave it alone (but you will need to install an oil-catch-can) and allow the engine to burn the excess until your next oil change. In the meantime, watch your fluid levels and take it back to the dealer to have the excess oil drained... And what is up with the electrical lines for your MAF sensor? Your car might have had an engine replaced, I would ask them about that also :dunno:

Blowing off coolant is fairly common if you use the std glycol/water coolant, it blows off excessive pressure when running hard due to localized boiling in the high thermal loading areas inside the engine.
That looks like oil though. You need to determine the source. Even if you have excessive blow-by in the intake it shouldn't be on the exterior engine parts. It could be an external leak, maybe somebody spilled oil, or who knows what???? Try cleaning it up and see if it re-appears and where. . |

One thing I suspect is it could be a degreaser that was used to clean up the engine bay. Just as we said, keep am eye for the source of your leak.
