Coil Test?

My coils have about 4k on them. And I felt like i was getting a slight misfire at idol speed ( a small "poof" noise from exhaust) no misfire at high rpm's, no start problems and no hot start problems, no drop in MPG's, the car runs like a top, just that small "poof" at idol... Anyways I hate to beleive that just after 4k miles they can go bad. So I was just wondering if anybody has the procedure to test these coils. I have tried and I was geting 0.0 ohms reading on C to B and C to A terminals but A to B is OK on all 4 of them. In the reports that I have It states that if you get a 0 ohm reading on either the A to B, C to B, or C to A then this is abnormal and it needs to be replaced.:wallbash: I can't beleive that all 4 coils are bad or else Im sure the car wouldn't even fire up, run like crap, or i would be geting a misfire a high rpm's and throw a CEL. Any advice or help would be GREATLY appreciated...Thanks for your time.... I would like to make sure that I'am doing this correctly, and correct this problem ASAP.

Well, no, you aren't testing them correctly. This is because Mazda's official procedure isn't correct. A failing coil can pass Mazda's test, which really only checks to see if it's possible that it will produce a charge at all. Doesn't address or measure the coil's ability to generate a solid spark on time every time.

Grab a ~$13 coil tester from an auto parts store. Looks like a spark plug with a clamp on the side. Remove a plug wire from a plug, stick it on the end of the tester, clamp the tester to the chassis to ground it, start up the car and watch the spark for consistency in brightness, duration, and frequency. Test each via their plug wires this way. If you find an exception, swap wires to make sure it isn't a wire failure.
