Coil, CEL and Random Stopping issues

Hi everyone,

Had a random engine breakdown while at idle just yesterday coming home from work. Took about 10 min of start attempts before it finally came back to life. Had to put foot to the floor a few times and 5-6 attempts got it started.

Car does not seem to stop while on motorway/highway but only at low speeds and idle which seems strange to me. So far I have only been able to check the Coils which seem to look ok to me but what do you guys think?

CEL Codes: P2259, P0131
Car has Greddy turbo kit (emanage blue), aftermarket exhaust and POD filter. 52,000KM

check compression ...

Emanage blue ? eek !

RX8_ 11-13-2011 10:11 PM

I want to go with a standalone unit and AP seems good but can't get them here in new Zealand can we. Seems the rx8 ecu is more smart then the emanage blue. I am now thinking to do a rebuild and stay factory unless someone can suggest better ecu than emanage. I would like a turbo tho only have 3k to spend.

The Cobb AccessPORT is currently available for the North American automatic transmission, 4-port and 6-port models as well as the manual transmission 6-port models, 2004 - 2008; as well as European versions, both high and low power, 5 and 6 speed manual transmissions, 2004 - 2008; 2005 and up Australian high power and 2004 high power Japanese Domestic models with manual transmissions.

what would be the best approach to use ap in my situation. I have the old greddy emanage blue unit with turbo. 2003 AT. It has got high flow exhaust with cel P0131. Car was modified in Japan and has been imported by a local importer. Would Ap provide a solution for me? I am in Auckland new Zealand.

Brettus 11-14-2011 10:01 PM

From what Easy is saying above - it appears not .

There are several of us here in NZ with turbos running protuner from the Aussie ...... Hymee .
It works ok but i would be loath to recommend it given the lack of service and support for it these days .
PM tofu box - he is trialling Adaptronics soon on his AT so may have an alternative for you .

Easy_E1 11-15-2011 12:18 AM

Looks like the AT is not happening. I'll ask MM tomorrow and double check. But a 2003 AT Japanese ECU. Don't think so.

It seems better off uninstalling the turbo kit and staying factory. Car runs ok but scared to keep it this way with Emanage blue.

Easy_E1 11-15-2011 10:02 PM

Looks like the Cobb is unavailable. Turbo with sketchy tuning? :Eyecrazy:

RX8_ 11-20-2011 09:41 PM

Changed coils (good 2nd hand) and did compression test on Saturday 90psi on both rotors. This was done by a nearby mechanic as I was scared to drive to the rotor guys. Also changed the 2nd air valve (P2259) car seems to run bit better. I get a P0131 tho I have already changed both o2 too. Is this normal with emanage blue?

Local greddy distributor gave a price of $1399 (emanage ultimate), $399 for rx8 loom. Is this a good price in nz dollars ofcourse? How do I go about installing it with emanage blue and also tuning? Damm seems a lot of hassle... would it be a straight unplug of emanage blue and plug in the emanage ultimate. I'm not too confident when it cOmes to wiring, is there a tutorial going from emanage blue to ult

Brettus 11-20-2011 09:46 PM

you could pick up an emangle ultimate for a pittance (because no-one wants those either) . if you really want one , advertise on this forum .

A better option might be a Powermod - PM rotaman . I know he has one lying around .

Rotaman 11-20-2011 10:02 PM

As Brettus said, I do have a spare Powermod computer which is setup for a turbo RX8.
Brettus knows more about how the Powermod computer works then I do, so if there is anything you need to know about it, ask him.
My Greddy kit came with an emanage ultimate and loom and I sold it on Trade Me for around $300nz. I wouldn't bother with the ultimate, its only slightly better than what you already have.
Where abouts in NZ are you?
If theres anything else I can help you with feel free to ask

is it suitable for 03 AT? I guess my only concerns is the installation and tune. I am in Waitakere, Auckland. How much is this puppy?
To add more salt on the wound when I took out the greddy piping to get to the coils there was some oil in the throttle. Some oil were also in between the rubber hose joiners..

Rotaman 11-21-2011 02:51 PM

I would think it should be suitable for a AT model, but I'm not 100% sure on this, if you would like to find out more about this computer, the website for them is -

http://www.powermod.com.au/index-1.html

You could contact them and ask if their RX8 powermod computer is suitable for AT's.
I would like to recover what the computer cost me and thats $600nz.
It comes with full instructions and wiring loom to plug straight in, plus software.
As for oil in the inlet pipes/ throttle etc, I can only think that your turbo is getting full oil pressure from the Turbo oil supply line, which is causing it to seep oil past the seals. You might need to fit a oil line restrictor into your Turbo oil supply line.
Look up Greddy Turbo fixes on the forum. Its a sticky under the Technical section I think.
As for fitting and tuning, I'm sure we could help you there if needed.

Thanks

emailed them today, hopefully get a reply tomorrow.
how do you know if you have an issue with battery or alternator? tested the battery with a voltmeter it is coming up with 12.4v before and after startup... however here is the issue

put the car on drive, keep your foot on the brake (dead stop) and then floor the pedal. sometimes the car takes a .5 sec before it moves (during this time battery light comes in for a sec then goes out). Most of the time it is ok. Also a light touch on the pedal is never an issue. The issue only occurs if I give higher throttle from a dead stop. Any ideas?

Rotaman 11-22-2011 02:02 AM

If your battery is being charged properly then it should read around 13.8 to 14.4v at the battery with the engine running. If you really want to check that out, take your battery or car to an auto electrician and ask him to put a load test on the battery, this will tell you whether the battery is ok or not, and ask him to check whether your alternator is charging.
Have fun

Regards

Rotaman
