Code P2096 NEED HELP (also code P0300, P0301)
 

Hey Guys,

Anyone experiences code P2096 (Target A/F feedback system too lean) before ? I only found P2097 (too rich), Also random misfired code P0300, P0301.

My local mechanic said it's a vacuum leak, possible in nozzle gasket connecting to ROTOR engine.

I also posted the problems Engine Stall when in Low RPM less than ~750 rpm

CEL P2096 (also P0300, P0302) Anyone Got one?
 

Just want to know, Any of you experience this CEL P2096? Any clue on What's going on? I got the messages from our member on the code meanings but just like to know Anyone had if before and what's the thing that cause it!

first of all- don't start multiple threads on the same issue. it doesn't help you or anyone else. i have merged the 2 threads.

Okay, sorry to make a necropost, but I am having the same issue. I posted on Yahoo answers (and it seems somehow someone copied it onto this website, and that's not me... weird).

It's especially bad during the day. And oddly enough, it'll still run like crap if I start it up at night-time, but only for like a minute, and then it runs just fine. But during the day, and especially after some highway driving, the car will stall at intersections, and if it manages to stay running, will idle very roughly.

I just got this car used (great price). I have cleaned the MAF, IAT, and have some ignition coils and spark plugs on the way. If anyone has anything to add (I clicked and searched through the linked pages and didn't really find anything) I would much appreciate it! Thank you!

Just to confirm ... you have the same cels causing a check engine light as originally posted?

Did you even bother to read the first post? A great start is is using your head and getting a proper analysis rather than engaging in uninformed hillbilly parts swapping 101. You basically pointed him in that proper direction to start, then reversed course with the intrawebz forum mantra above. :pat:

Are you getting a CEL code at all? If you are getting the system running lean code might be a vacuum leak, also check/replace your air filter.

He'd already eluded to having bought the coils and plugs .... I didn't recommend that he should buy coils and plugs.

What was I suppose to say? .... Hey idiot good job buying coils and plugs for no reason, why don't you figure the problem out first before wasting your cash ..... but if you have some money to throw around I've got some swamp land in Florida for sale

Sorry, I had that stuff in that link, but I'll go ahead and post it. It's an '05, manual (only one worth driving), 125k. I know that's a lot of miles, but I figured for the price of the car even if I had to do an engine swap I couldn't go wrong.

It is pulling the CEL codes for p2096, p0300, and p0301, the same as the OP. It flashes about once per 100-150 miles, so I assume it has some crappy coils or plugs. The coils and plugs were old, so they needed replaced anyways.

I'd been looking all over the intake for leaks, hoses (a few vacuum lines were a bit loose), but nothing has improved. I'll take a look at that filter. No shop around here wants to touch the damn thing save for the dealer, and I'd like to keep my arms and legs. Not even a simple freakin' smoke test for leaks. Drivin' me nuts. OKC, OK area, BTW.

It's so odd, though. It's like it's worse with hot air, not necessarily a hot engine. The engine will be just about as hot at night, but the performance difference is night-and-day. No pun intended, seriously.

Also, here is the post that I ACTUALLY made on Yahoo Answers.

I took out the intake when I was going in to replace the ignition coils and found a good deal of oil in there. Quite a good bit of it, in fact. Would that be the cause of my woes? I looked it up and found an oil catch can to install, but what's a good way to clean that junk out? It's all over the intake. Thanks!

That could definitely be the problem. Wipe up all the oil with a clean rag, then use a rag with a bit of alcohol. Next remove the MAF sensor get some MAF sensor cleaner spray it down let it dry put it all back together. You don't really need a catch can just don't overfill the oil. See how that helps.

I've cleaned the MAF and IAT now with that MAF-specific spray and have wiped up most of the oil. Just need to wipe with some alcohol now and I'll try her out in the morning.
