Clutch/Transmission issues.
As of right now, the clutch pedal has a normal stiffness when you first press on it. Then, the pedal immediately falls to about half way and feels normal till the floor. It is very hard to get it in any gear while the car is on and at a stop. It is not grinding at any time. While driving, shifting is still smooth.
I hadn't driven my 8 for about two weeks due to snow. It was perfect before I garaged it. When I started driving it again three days ago, The transmission was a little stiff. Since, it has become exponentially worse. Also, the clutch was replaced last spring due to a catastrophic defect in the last one. |
my first question would be, are you still under warranty? if so, take it in. bear in mind that the dealer may tell you that the clutch and components are only covered for 12mos or 12K miles.
you may want to inspect the slave cylinder for leaks and check the resivour on the brake master cylinder and make sure the fluid is topped off. the resivour holds fluid for the brake master as well as the clutch master so its very important that its up to spec and clean and full. moisture in the fluid will likely cause problems as it beings to deteriorate the fluid. look at the clutch pedal actuaing rod off of the pedal and follow it to the clutch master cylinder. you'll see where the actuaiting rod meets up with the clutch master's piston. check that area for leakage as well. often times the seal around the piston lets go and you will see fluid leakage dripping or seeping from that area. more of a common issue with older cars but leave no stone unturned. |
Mine's out of factory warranty. The resivour tank is still topped off. I'll check the rest after class today.

I checked for leaks and found none. I bled the clutch. I've poured through my service manual. I am stumped. Anyone have any more ideas?
|
Are you sure that it was bled correctly?
Also check the welds on the clutch pedal bracket. |
I followed the service manual's instructions for bleeding the clutch to the letter. I'll look at the welds when I get back home.
|
All the welds are fine. I guess I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and take it in
|
keep us updated on what they find
|
try magic. also ... maybe think about the throw out bearing thing.
|
sounds like a problem in disengaging the clutch but not a cluch component!!! Keep us informed on the dealership info!
|
it is an odd issue, and i have it.. the to bearing is binding up on the input shaft cover.. why dont know yet.
i also have had my front tranny oil seal go. i think they are related, but until it comes apart who knows why.. beers  |
The pivot bushing was missing. Bought a new clutch pedal assembly and installed it. Works like a dream now
|
 !

huh?

So the joint pin was the only thing installed? If that's the case, why not just buy the bushing instead of a new clutch pedal assembly? :uhh: |
