clutch pedal very stiff / clutch does not disengage properly / CLUTCH PROBLEM!
hello,
i'm having this weird problem. when i ride around my car for long time, as the temperature of my car goes up, my clutch pedal starts to get stiff and stiff [hard to press]. it is very easy to press when it's cold, like when i start the car. however as i start driving, clutch pedal gets harder and harder to press. also as it hardens, my clutch disengages very top of the pedal. when it's cold it disengage at the bottom however as it hits up it disengages at the top. also my clutch does not disengage properly!!!. it disengage properly when it's cold however when it's hot, it just doesn't disengage and my clutch slips like HELL!!!. so my main problem is when my car gets warm [driving 15~30mins] 1. clutch pedal becomes soft to hard [very stiff, i mean very] 2. clutch disengages from very top of the pedal, when it's normal when it's cold. 3. clutch does not disengage properly when it's get hot. [clutch slips] please help~ my car is 04, has about 75000km on it. thank you |
you need to replace the clutch slave cylinder. This was a common problem in the 04's. There was something in the slave cylinder fluid that would boil out when it got hot. Do this as quickly as you can as this is going to wear out your clutch. Also probably won't hurt to bleed your clutch line and brake lines at the same time.
There is a TSB on this. You can find it at www.finishlineperformance.com |

There is a TSB on this. You can find it at www.finishlineperformance.com so i did add the new clutch release cylinder. i went to finishline and got the "clutch hard to disengage" TSB and got it fixed. however problem wasn't fixed. i bleed the clutch line however not brake line. |
In that case also check your clutch pedal bracket. It may be bent or ready to break.
Other thought is there is an adjustment screw in the clutch play that may need to be adjusted. |

i read that whole thread. i don't know if it's the same case as my case............ |
Then I would take it to the dealer. the other option is PM dannobre and see if he has some time to take a look at it for you. He lives up near you and knows the car inside and out.

My only other thought is crawl underneath and make sure the slave cylinder bolts are tightened down well and there is nothing loose that would cause the system to be erratic about your clutch engagement.
Have a friend push the clutch in and out while you take a look at is with a flashlight to see if there is any movement. |

anyone???
i really need to fix this problem. help me~~~~~~~~~~ |
I dunno... air in the lines or the wrong kinda fluid in there??
I would just go into the dealership for an oil change or something and ask one of the mech's or service advisor's if they've heard of that kinda issue... nothing says you have to get the work done on the spot or anything... but at least you'll have a better idea of what's going on. |

since you've done all the above mentioned, try your pressure plate & bearing , this is a mayor problem on 2004 I experienced this a while back and fixed it, havent had any trouble since , going 2 years now with the same clutch, pressure plate, bearing, slave cylinder, and clutch cables... good luck

Similar problem :(
Hi,
Im having a similar problem. When my engine gets hot i struggle like mad to get the thing into gear..it takes two hands sometimes to yank it in. It's a horrible experience when you are stuck in a que of traffic. I've posted a similar thread in the hope that someone can help me fix the problem. Love my car to bits but feel really unsafe in it at the moment. |
Im having the same exact problem. How did you fix this issue?
|
whatever you do, dont force it into gear with strength. your going to bend the forks in the transmission and have to buy a whole new one.
|
sounds to me like a pressure plate problem. I had a similar problem on my FC when i tried to replace the pressure plate and clutch with racing ones by myself. and i obviously messed up a little =(

Dont bother checking the clutch cable, we dont have one! No need to remove the pedal bracket to adjust freeplay, there is an adjustable push rod ,loosen the brass colored lock nut and turn the rod to adjust the free play, aprox: 1/2 - 3/4 inch is recomended.Good luck. |
I also have the same problem. squeaky clutch and very stiff when I press down on the clutch. the stiff occur after 10 to 15 mins drive after starting the car. Does anyone know the problem? I'm in need to fix this quick because it happened to me 4 months ago and it's getting really bad
|
what I find that in alot of help threads is that not very many post the results after the car is fixed.
So no idea what was the cause of the problem and what was replaced |
