Clutch PEDAL keeps getting stuck on the floor
 

Went to drive my 04 rx8, and my clutch pedal wouldnt come up off the floor. managed to bring it up with my foot, but when i deperesed it again it sinks to the floor.I have noticed it sqeaking a few months ago, but everyting seemed to be normal.. i checked for cracks, i cant notice anything. sometimes the pedal is stiff and comes back up, but other times i can press it down about half way and it sinks to the floor... i replaced the slave cylinder about 10k miles ago. Would this be the clutch bracket? or slave/master problem?

Im not 100% sure, but I do know there is a very recent recall for our clutch brackets..

ok i heard this, i just wasnt sure if a broken bracket would cause this problem..

Inspect your racket for similar cracks

it doesnt appear to be cracked, but the metal is definatly coming apart at the weld..and it has been sqeaking for a lwhile now

Try to move your pedal from left to right, if you could move it with ease, the bracket it broken. If it is the bracket, that will explain why your pedal doesn't retract back up, I think it's because of the misaligned push rod which probably causes you to grind everytime you change gears?

it definetaly has a good couple inches of play on either side...
I took it all the way out and the welds are starting to seperate..pushed it back and re-installed it and it worked for a couple minutes, retracted again..
Dealer tomorrow hopefully its under warranty like everybody is saying..

It will be, its for 04-09 rx8s, and your an 04 so they will replace it free.

Likely a clutch slave or master problem...any fluid leaks under your car??

If that fixes the problem, invest on an RR Clutch Pedal Bracket shown in the link 'DarkBrew' attached; if you're keeping the car longer.

Did you torque the top bolt down?
The two metal bolts on the firewall are not where all of the force of depressing the clutch should be taken. Please check the slot where the third bolt tightens down for evidence of sliding out of place during compression of the pedal.

If you want to keep the car then invest in the RR reinforcement as preventive maintenance.

dealer said its the master cylinder.. They ddnt seem to concerned about the clutch pedal moving from side to side..LOL..

Get them to replace the bracket when they do the master cylinder...it is covered under an extended warranty. A failing bracket can take out the master cylinder if it is left loose

^...............yep, I would do the same. I think it's far enough along(cracked) where they should take care of it all at once.

Reviving an old thread... Got out of the gym today started the card as normal, went to put her in reverse and the stupid clutch was stuck to the floor. I gently tugged on it and it came right back up and was normal from there.

Get home and checked the entire bracket assembly and it's fine, no cracks etc. and no clutch play from side to side. Also checked for leaks and found none. So my question is, you think this is just a random occurrence or a precursor to something worse? I literally drove it around for a while and it was 100% fine. Depressed the clutch a thousand time and still no sticking. The only thing I can think of is the springs need some lubrication. Any other thoughts?

Exact same thing happened to me. Except my clutch pedal stays on the floor and wont come back up unless I pull it with my foot. I'm replacing the clutch slave and master cylinders because I inspected my clutch bracket and it was fine with no cracks. Usually the cylinders fail internally and you won't notice any leaks from outside.

You get a quote for replacing them both yet? Hopefully mines just a fluke but probably not.

I'm actually replacing them both myself. Not to hard with a little know-how. The parts come out to about $120ish on RockAuto.com.
The slave is on top of the transmission.. Accessible when you remove the UIM and the master cylinder is located right on the firewall and comes off with the 2 bolts on the clutch pedal.

You should post a DIY with pictures, I have yet to see one for those.

Yeah that would be sweet. I will probably do it myself too seeing I have ripped apart every inch of my car at some point owning it.

when it 1st happened to me, I pulled it back up once, and didn't have another problem for probably 2 months...then one day it completely went out while I was driving.. moral of the story is it isn't just a random thing that happens. replace :) and +1 on the DIY. I did the slave it was easy aside from the tiny amount of space. and bleeding is sorta a PIA. master cyl I let the dealer do, since I was hoping it was the clutch bracket..

Crap.. halfway done with the replacement lol I'll try to take some pics today when I finish up. Maybe i'll get enough to write a DIY. Wasn't really thinking of it as I really wanna get my 8 back up and running again.

I saw that picture you linked of the gunk in your upper intake manifold.

I needed to replace the slave & the master cylinder tried the slave first but kept missing put the mater in and I have a clutch again
