Clutch Pedal Bracket Installation

OK, so I finally got and installed my new reinforced clutch pedal except now ... I turn the key and my car doesn't turn over. I have lights radio and everything, but it doesn't seem to want to even crank. Any ideas what that could be other than the starter and the battery?

One other question pertaining to this. I installed the new clutch pedal and it's been so long since I've sat in my car that I don't remember if I should be able to move my shifter into various gears without have the pedal down when the car is off.

Can someone tell me if they're able to move the shifter into various gears while the car is off without the clutch engaged? I hope they can otherwise something went wrong with my installation. Maybe that will help explain why when I turn the key I don't get a crank.

Maybe the two are related .. any ideas or better yet actual answers would be greatly appreciated.

Check installation. I can only think the car doesn't know the clutch is engaged which is why it wont crank. The gears may engage with out the clutch pressed but it may depend on how much pressure you apply to the shifter.

changing gear when the car is off without clutch is normal

you need to recheck your clutch in sensor

+1

the switch at the bottom of the clutch travel is not being activated

test this by holding down the switch while starting... MAKE SURE it's in neutral

The switch is self adjusting... you can pull it back out carefully

Search a little and you'll see many stories.

Thank you DarkBrew you are completely correct! I held it down this morning and turned the key, and it cranked (although engine is flooded from sitting around for a while, but I can fix that)

Next question .. how do I adjust it so that it engages the switch?

^ The starter interlock switch is often overly-compressed when installing the bracket and simply needs to be, carefully, pulled back out. No further adjustment is necessary.

^............right and it takes a little more force usually than people want to give it at first. There is a thread around here with pictures of how it would look now, and how far out it should be. I tried to locate them last night, but couildn't. I think Jon316G had the pictures, but can't locate them so far! Argh!

You can see how each one is a different length and how far out it can be.
I recall it took a little "tug" to pull the plunger out... so maybe you weren't pulling hard enough.
Obviously, don't put too much muscle into it if it doesn't appear like its going to budge.

^ worst case if you do pull too hard (as cited it does take more effort then you would expect) you can insert a 16-18 awg spade connector into the interlock harness socket to bypass the switch. Don't ask me how I know! ;)

Thanks guys. It turns out the sensor wasn't reaching the clutch pedal. I tried to pull the sensor out but it wouldn't come. After speaking with someone else they told me to pull harder, that it won't break. After I stopped being a p*ssy I pulled it out far enough to reach.

One final question and then this thread can close.

The clutch is now grabbing high, how do I adjust that?
