Clutch Issue?

Hey guys, wondering if you can help me diagnose this problem.

So I was driving on the freeway on Sunday and noticed I was having a hard time going up a big hill. I had to keep downshifting and it would only go about 25-30 mph. I have a 2004 with 97,000miles. I noticed that the motor oil was low so I thought maybe that was the problem, so I added more when I got to my destination. When I was driving home, I was on the freeway and I began experiencing a loss of power where it decelerate when I was at a high RPM (5-6k) to about 45mph on the freeway. I pulled over to check it out but could not figure it out. I tried to drive it home and barely made it and it took awhile for me to get to 60mph with the help of downhill.

I started researching on this forum but could not pinpoint the problem. I drove it this morning and I did not experience any problem. I was riding around in low RPM. I drove it to a local car shop and the guy diagnosed it as a clutch problem. He said I needed to get it replaced and its about $900. What do you guys think? I dont want to spend that much and not fix the issue at hand. Thanks guys! Response much appreciated!!!!:wavey:

Let me google that for you

well $900 is not a fair price for a clutch re-install first off. Buy a clutch online for like $350 for a decent one. I got an Exedy stage 2 for that price. I would first seafoam your 8, then if that doesn't work, buy new coild, plugs and wires, along with the seafoam clean the MAF sensor, it can get dirty in there. If none of those work then replace your clutch because it could be slipping. Good luck bud! And search the forum a little better. [= "power loss at 5-6k rpm" seemed great for me.

Not a clutch issue. I'd lay money on bets that your cat is clogged. Probably from letting your ignition fail, which will also hurt your ability to make power.

You are outside of the federal cat warranty.

OK thanks guys! Ill try getting the engine cleaner and cleaning it first. I replace the coils, plugs and wires a couple months ago and I cleaned the MAF yesterday. Maybe cleaning the MAF yesterday was why I did not see the problem this morning? Ill update you when I finish cleaning it. Thanks again!

OOO Cat being plugged didn't even bother to think of that. good call. Haha, that happened to my friend, and power loss was exactly what happened. Good luck bud!

Definitely get your ignition system checked first, and like RIWWP said could be a failing cat as well... There's been soo many lately on the forums. If you need a seafoam cleaning to get your power back I think you're pretty much screwed, but who knows. There are also ways to test if your clutch is slipping.
