clutch chirping

hey,

i am a new user on here and a new rx-8 owner. i absolutely love the car and i have been browsing on here for a few months looking over the various topics and i haven't found one on my current problem.

if there is a fourm on here and i missed it, sorry for the repeat thread. whenever i turn the car on, there comes a chirping sound that is steady until you press your foot down on the clutch. then it dissapears. letting your foot of the clutch makes it come back again. i have not heard the sound while driving the car, but i normally don't stick my head out the window when i drive. plus the noise isnt that loud in the first place to begin with so its unclear if the car makes the sound while in gear.

the car is still under warrenty and i am going to be bringing it in soon, but i was curious to see if anyone had the same problem or had any problems fixing it.

thanks!

The noise is coming from the clutch release/throwout bearing. If you are taking the car in you could mention it. But, I wouldn't worry about it.

i hear this noise as well, can confirm what alnielsen is saying.
They told me that they could replace the bearing under warranty but since it is not an issue i'm just waiting to upgrade the whole clutch.

Correct its the bearing and does not affect performance.

hi guys, can you specifically mention which bearing that I should replace? Is it the pilot bearing or the throw-out bearing or both? I can't stand this noise anymore. Thanks.

its the throw out bearing that seems to always go out, there have been cases where people replace it and it still goes out...your best bet is to learn to live with it
