Clicking Noise... :(
 

When i started my 8 this morning i noticed a clicking noise it sounds like it coming from around the throttle body area but I'm not completely sure, i looked and couldn't see anything that looked unusual, when i step on the gas the clicking speeds up with the engines RPM's. Does anybody know what the problem is or might be...or had similar issues?

Sounds like one of your spark plug wires came loose and the spark is "jumping".
Check your connections and make sure they are secured.

What he said^. However, if your plugs wires are on tight like mine are then it might be your throw out bearing from your clutch. One of our members had this issue and when he would step on the clutch it would go away.

But your throw-out bearing is in use when you step on the clutch pedal.
A bad throw-out bearing sound would get worse when you step on the pedal.

Odd. I was in the parking lot of In N Out and when he would step on his clutch pedal it would go away. Shortly7 after his clutch went :scared:

Not sure how it came to be around here that when you step on the clutch pedal and the noise goes away, its the release (throw-out) bearing.
I see this comment all the time and don't know why (unless people just don't understand how a clutch works).

If the noise goes away when you press on the clutch pedal, it can be the pilot bearing, bushing, or lack of lubrication (even lack of lubrication on the throw-out bearing where it attaches to the release fork).
A truly bad/seized bearing doesn't make a click sound anyway. It actually makes a squealing/whining sound.

When the clutch pedal is depressed, both the relase and pilot bearings come into play. When the clutch pedal is released they are, essentially, "along for the ride".

I agree sounds like spark plug wire coming loose or off and arcing onto the housing(s)

i tried both of those and they were both a no go. Anything else i should try before taking it to the doctor?

Just a suggestion, could you have "any" debris or a cut/nick on your Alternator or Compressor belt, that could be making a click as belt(s) go around??

ODDS are not this...just a suggestion... :)

If you have the ability to capture a video clip of this that would help us out.
Sometimes just hearing the sound can tell so much (or at least narrow it down)

its one of you spark plug wires, make sure all 4 on there tight, you can reach in there and get em all

^....................and if run your hands down the wires as much as you can and one of them has a split in the insulation, you will be the first to know!

I have a clicking noise also, and when I push in the clutch it goes away. Not sure what it is tho.

Spencer...................wait till the car is cool and then get under there and see if it's the heat shield like someone said on your linked page. I'm assuming it does this 100% of the time?
It does sound like that might be it!

Exhaust leak? Thats a strange noise on a rotary...sounds like valve lifter noise on a piston engine ;) Sure you didn't swap in a boinger :)

Ok, so i took it to mazda and had them hook it up to the computer and found out 2 things. 1 Im an idiot, and 2 Nice call with the spark plug, thats exactly what it was.

Come on jon316g you have to solve the "ticking sound" (search thicking sound).
Not trying to be a ass but this one has been around for sometime and the only thing people say is check your plug wires. But what happens when its not that? the threads fade a way and we dont know what it was cuz the owner takes it to the dealer and we never hear back.
