check engine light on start

yesterday i was redlining the car about 3times, something i havent done in about a month and also 2 burnouts. today i drive to school about 25miles away and arrived great. i turned of the car and waited about 20 minutes, car turned on great about i noticed on the start the check engine came on as well. I'm concerned and wondering what might be the issue. help? my last oil change was 1 month ago, the talk if full with gas and gas cap is tight. help me?

Redline is good
Burnouts are expensive

most likely it's an oxygen sensor that has fouled

RIWWP 07-13-2011 03:53 PM

Potato,

That suggest has no weight at this time. If it's just a misfire, it could be failing coils, plugs, wires, or O2 sensor, failed engine, excess carbon, disconnected plug wire, failing cat, dirty e-shaft sensor, incorrect e-shaft sensor profile data, dirty or failing MAF, dirty air filter, and/or vacuum leak.

But it's a CEL, so it could be any one of...these items

You COULD be right, but there are a lot of items to rule out free of charge, starting with getting the code read, before replacing a $260 part.

potatochobit 07-23-2011 04:09 PM

at no time was I suggesting people should start randomly replacing parts on their car, lol.

if the check engine light is on - you should check the engine; and read the code
however, as for a misfire, I think that would be something noticeable
I am just guessing its an emission part as when cars get old they get dirty and he is driving a series I and stated he was pushing it hard

This is like suggesting that the older you get, the more likely you are to have a stomach ache, so if you get a knee problem, it's a good idea to have your ears checked.

It doesn't make any sense.

Yes, it's possible that all 3 issues exist, but that doesn't mean that one is a result of the other 2. Just...research your own answer before putting it forth, to make sure it's actually correct. So far, it hasn't been.

Moved to Series I forum.

This section is called Trouble Shooting,
if you have a CEL, don't come here without getting it read - that's not trouble shooting, it's trouble guessing.

Before starting a thread, we should include all information needed to solve the problem. Don't just assume that we will know what to expect without those critical informations. Next time, try to be accurate as possible.

Anyway, +1 on the CEL read.
