HAVE THE SAME ISSUE!

Was working on the car making an attempt to install some lighting. Instead of connecting it to the battery terminal to keep a clean finish, was working with the fuze box in the engine bay and while unscrewing the terminal on the top left side to crimp the wire in place, the wrench moved and hit the piece of metal next to the strut bar, sparked, and basically welded itself there. (Should have disconnected that battery!)

Once the wrench was removed, all the electronics in the car fail to turn on: windows, locks, illumination, except for the illumination on the instrument gauges themselves.

The headlights, taillights, hazards, horn, and other misc still work however. So basically the items fuzed in the engine bay on the panel I was working on still work, but nothing that is fuzed next to the driver's door works.

And finally, the most important part, the engine won't start. When the key is turned to ON, the chime turns on and you hear crap power up in the engine bay. Once you turn to start, you hear the solenoid click, but not even the starter make an attempt at starting. Plenty of power in the battery to run what does want to turn on.

Need help quick!

Check the MAIN 120A fuse
Its underneath where the two main electrical wires connect to the fuse panel in the engine bay.

^agreed! Disconnect the battery and check ALL fuses especially in the cab (lower left right by ur leg) if all are good reconnect battery and see if it starts

We checked all the fuses, MINUS the MAIN underneath those terminals. It was definitely blown. All the parts stores are closed right now so we'll have to make sure nothing else was ruined.

Can you even purchase that particular fuse at a retailer or is that Mazda specific?

Jon316G 03-27-2010 11:39 PM

I honestly don't think you can get one at the local auto store, but I'm also not 100% sure either.
You might have to make a couple phone calls in the morning... sorry.

so , we solved the problem with the blown fuse, we took the old damaged fuse, and crimped the two nodes- fillament and mashed them together, which supplied enough power to roll up the windows, and hopefully start the car, or so we thought, when it tried to turn over there was a loud pop, and big spark, obvious failure to start..however after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery we were able to get enough juice to take care of the windows before tomorrows rain!.. going to mazda tomorrow to see if i can get me a fuse...do you think that the fuze is the only thing jacked?? the nav and the radio failed to work after mashing the fuse

armyjay 03-28-2010 06:47 AM

shit - you got some big probs over there dude, i just killed my battery, i thought it was worse than what it was.im glad you figured out what your prob is, the best sound is when the car starts after all these damn probs. next time - DISCO THE BATTERY - LOL - i will do the same

Hard to say for sure.
Looking at the electrical diagram, if the MAIN 120A fuse doesn't get the radio working, there are two other fuses to look at.
30A BTN
15A ROOM

You can check these now if you like, or wait for the 120A fuse and then go through every system to find out what doesn't work.

Arrgh. Why would you mash the fuse together? They pop for a reason. :(
Hopefully you didn't actually fry something further down the line.

Good luck and keep us posted.
