cel "cylinder 2 miss fire" no power loss and no smoke or shuttering

just installed AP pulley and new ignition coils, plugs and wires. installed the ignition stuff first took it on a drive and everything was fine, then the pulley. the install went smooth but when i took it on the test drive going through the neighborhood it was nice, faster revs smoother idle just better overall...... then the blinking engine on the gauge cluster came on and went away when i was slowing down to pull over so i pressed on to kragens, on the way there the light came on intermittently in the 3k-5k rpm range. i tried to do the 20 brake tap and disconnected the battery and cleared the codes with their OBDii reader. on the way home it came back. right now the battery is disconnected and has been for a little while now.

any ideas?:uhh:

When you reset the NVRAM, did you see the oil pressure gauge's needle sweep just past center and then back down?

tazfc3s 06-05-2011 06:08 PM

i didnt notice it i was paying attention to the cel

And why would you be focusing on that while doing a reset.... wait... you didn't try to reset the NVRAM with the car running, did you?

Nothing... which is why I asked.
If you didn't perform the NVRAM reset properly, then it would have explained why you were still having problems.

hence the head banging on the wall lol didn't have the battery disconnected long enough lol I did the 20 brake tap and it didn't do anything I did it with the ignition on then turned it off then started what did I do wrong?

tazfc3s 06-08-2011 01:40 AM

update: cel comes on and blinks while under light load and flashes 7 times then stays lit... going to get codes red in the morning and do another reset.

tazfc3s 06-09-2011 01:41 PM

poppin codes for losing communication from abs comp and instrument panel what is going on all this after the pulley install is it just a coincidence or related?

tazfc3s 06-18-2011 03:56 PM

ok... misfires are coming back I'm getting impatient with this car and have the money to give it to mazda for them to jerk me around and charge me stupid amounts of Money for them to tell me it's something not covered in the warranty or that I need a new engine. what is the sensor right behind the crank pulley? could that be causing a false multiple miss fire code?

Mazurfer 06-18-2011 04:24 PM

It the ESS sensor.
Possible you messed it up while doing the pulley install and got it dirsty.
Might want to search cleaning it.
Are you sure you got the plate on right that is behind the pulley?
Did it come loose or move while doing the pulley?
It's keyed, so you can put it on backwards as I recall, but you do need to make sure it's positioned right.
That plate is the eccentric shaft plate.........ESS is therefore the Eccentric Shaft Sensor.

I still don't get whether or not you performed the rest correctly.
Turn the car to ON(not started), tap the brake pedal pretty qucikly until you see the oil gauge needle sweep to the right, then back to the left. Turn the car OFF, wait a few seconds and start it as normal.

BTW......and no reason you should have done this when replacing a pulley, but you didn't knocjk a plug wire off did you? Might wanna check that.
