CEL still stuck on, no luck yet

Hi all, my 8 was just delivered last night and unfortunately due to the idiot driver who unloaded it I think I've been stuck with an annoying check engine light. He disconnected the battery for the trip up from FL to MA, I'm assuming last Friday when he picked it up, and jumped the car when he dropped it off  Apparently the alarm was too much and he didn't think to disarm it!

Anyway, after he jumped the car and drove it off the truck it sat at idle for a few minutes before I jumped in. Pretty much right after I sat down, the idle went a little wonky and would jump up and down. Car was drivable but wouldn't rev past 2k, so obviously driving down the street to my house was a little slow. I plugged in the AP and got a couple of codes:

IC u1900

PCM p0610

I tried clearing the codes with the AP port but they keep showing up. Also, I followed both procedures detailed here. Everything under the hood looks to be connected pretty solid, so I don't think anything was shaken loose with the ride up. I also re flashed the car with the AP back to the base map and then to the custom MM map from the AP, but the CEL remains.

Also, with the initial problem, the traction control light popped up on the dash, but went away after things were cleared with the AP. As of right now, the car will start up and seems to run fine, but I have not really driven it as I do not yet have plates and don't want to risk anything blowing up on me since I'm not sure whats up with the CEL.

If anyone has any idea of what's up with this, help would definitely be welcomed!

When you disconnect the battery for that long it resets the ECU. It will relearn the and car will be fine after a couple of cycles.

Please read the stickies.

I have a special interest in this because NErx8 has my car.

Razz1: The issue he has is not related to learning fuel trims. Even when you flash the PCM, you can rev over 2,000 and there wouldn't be a CEL.

As NErx8 mentioned, the trucking company managed to take the car, drive it up on their truck, then arm the alarm (car has shock sensor). Instead of disabling it when the alarm went off, they went underhood and they disconnected the battery.

NErx8 drove the RX8 about a mile home when he got the car. He said it ran funny - CEL light on, DSC/traction and odd idle. My initial thought is battery disconnect = DSC light, so not a big deal. The CEL and idle being off sounded like what I'd expect from a disconnected MAF sensor, so that was the first thing I asked him to check.

The AP at the time read off two CELs, one of which was:

P2109 TP sensor minimum stop range/performance problem ON 1 CCM ´ (See DTC P2109 )
There is a bulletin for that cel, to reflash the pcm if the code appears after a jump start:

https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...&postcount=102

So NErx8 uninstalled the AP (stock map) and reinstalled the MM tune. I don't think this is the same as the Dealer doing a flash since the AP only modifies the differences between the two, and not a complete rewrite of the file in the computer.

After doing AP CEL reset, peddle stomp reset, and test reset, it now gives CEL:

P0610 PCM vehicle options error ON 1 CCM ´ (See DTC P0610 )

I'm out of ideas since I've never had this code before. I don't know how the truckers jump started the car, but PCM errors should not appear as a result of a car that sat on a truck for 3 days.

Anyone have suggestions besides taking it to a dealer for a full PCM flash?

Has this forum died, or does no one know the answer?

NErx8 01-29-2010 08:31 PM

Still haven't managed to rid myself of the CEL. I cannot drive the car yet as I do not have plates and will not until sometime early next week : (

Going after the shipping company to have them pay for the local Mazda dealer to look at it. If they don't want to then I'm going to file a claim with the insurance... still pissed that they messed with the battery.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas on how to clear it without going to the dealer, I'd appreciate it :anger:

Thinking..........................

Is a strange one!

mysql101 01-29-2010 08:34 PM

If it makes you feel better, here's the car on the 16th when it could go over 2,000 rpm.

PS: Did you compare mileage to find out how far the truckers drove the 8?

NErx8 01-29-2010 08:43 PM

Yeah, it was like 1 mile or something. I guess it was just the drive from your driveway to the truck and a couple of times when they had to switch cars around on the truck. The 8 was up top, so I guess they played musical cars a bit.

On a side note, I just about shit my pants when they jumped the car... the 8 was sitting pretty up top and they drove a truck up the ramps and stopped like 1/2 a ft in front of the car... apparently it was "easier" to do that than break out the jump kit.

mysql101 01-29-2010 08:46 PM

At least that's comforting. I don't let anyone drive my cars.

A dealer PCM reflash costs what out of warranty? $70?

NErx8 01-29-2010 08:51 PM

Not sure, didn't get a chance to call before they closed so I'll be finding out tomorrow. Still though, less about the money and more about them not calling either contact number for you or I and going under the hood to mess with things.

mysql101 01-29-2010 08:54 PM

The car doesn't automatically arm itself. They locked the car using the remote and enabled the alarm. Then they apparently forgot how the remote worked and yanked wires to disable the alarm when it went off.

Mazurfer 01-29-2010 09:16 PM

At this point, I think it's probably best to go get it reflashed and then move forward once again with the AP. It's all I got right now.
Yeah, the car will lock itself, but it won't turn on the shock sensor alarm until you arm it by pushing the lock twice...............if I recall correctly.

With the battery being off, I can see that the idle might be a little screwy for a couple of drive cycles, but no way should it not be able to go over 2k and throw that CEL.

throttle position sensor code.. check the harness going to the throttle body, if it won't go over 2,000 and it's a mechanical problem then maybe something is going on in the throttle body area.

Wut? Might wanna re-read that code he says it's throwing....unless I missed something?????? :uhh:

alz0rz 01-29-2010 10:58 PM

P2109 TP sensor minimum stop range/performance problem ON 1 CCM ´ (See DTC P2109 )

TP = Throttle Position sensor.. so it's safe to say something wrong in that area.. the throttle body not fully opening could definitely explain why the car won't get enough air in to go over 2k rpm or why it forced the car into limp mode. Also.. what to make of the "minimum stop range" portion..

I got a code very similar to that, if not the same one, when I was tapping my throttle body harness for the tp sensor signal for my nitrous module. It was because I had shorted it out inadvertently.

With that said I'm not sure how the alarm fits into any of this.. but worth a shot.. maybe a squirrel/rodent went on the car haul as well and created some problems under there?

Mazurfer 01-29-2010 11:01 PM

^............... I just don't see where he mentioned that code?

I stand corrected........my bad.
So now it seems as if there is a little difference in CEL codes between what was reported in post 1 and post 4.

Actually.. I took your advice and I re-read.. turns out I was wrong too.

He had that code along with another, but after the reset he has only one code, not the one I was referring too. Regardless, according to the TSB and some searching on the forums they are interrelated..

Mazurfer 01-29-2010 11:13 PM

We are all f*&^ed up..............I'm going to sleep! :lol2:

mysql101 01-30-2010 09:10 AM

Yes. Tp sensor was the original cel. That went away and now just has a ecu error code. The tp sensor cel is apparently frequently a result of a jump start according to the Mazda technical bulletin I posted.

Right now the only cel we are working on is what was mentioned in the first post. I only brought up the other stuff for a complete background.

Mazurfer 01-30-2010 07:27 PM

I still say for him to go get the reflash. Then start over with the AP tune from there.

NErx8 01-31-2010 06:43 AM

I spoke with my local Mazda dealer the other day and she recommended it go through a few drive cycles and if it doesn't clear to bring it in for the reflash. So hopefully I'll be able to get plates tomorrow or Tuesday, depending on when USPS actually gets my mail to me : (

mysql101 01-31-2010 06:53 AM

driving a rx8 without going over 2k is near impossible.
