Have you tried using a breaker bar yet?
Its good for those stubborn bolts/nuts.

pup 02-11-2010 05:10 PM

what is a breaker bar

@!!narotordo 02-11-2010 05:12 PM

Drive the car get the bolts hot. Jack up the car and spray the hell out of them with pb blaster.
I have a 04 with 60k miles at the time and mine came off that way.
Get a kick ass socket that locks. Dont use a cheep one from Chinna lol and put your back into it. Or my friend held the socket and I put my foot on the bar till we hard a snap! then we could turn them and take them off.
GL!

Allows you to get some leverage : )

Lol looks like I was beat to the punch... if you've got some pipe laying around, you could just use that as well.

Jon316G 02-11-2010 05:16 PM

Damn I'm getting slow.. I was just about to send breaker bar pics with the Wiki link.
So yeah... what they said ;)

@!!narotordo 02-11-2010 05:18 PM

They are on there man! you really got to put your back into it till your face turns red lol or use your foot.
The pb blaster really helps! spray the hell out of them bolts.

Might as well run out and get three new bolts too. Even if the OEM bolts do not break you may not want to reuse them.

Jon316G 02-11-2010 05:20 PM

Yeah... the combination of PB Blaster and a breaker bar should do the trick.
Just keep this in mind, when you buy a breaker bar, keep in mind how much room you have under the car.
Don't buy the longest bar they have... I think I use my 18" breaker bar when under the car.

pup 02-11-2010 05:21 PM

damn fellas i really appreciate all the help....now i gotta go get a breaker bar from my father in law.....ill keep you all posted.....my pipe also cam with new bolts thank good ness

GL!

And take a deep breath.
Might wanna grab the fire extinguisher while you are at it.

Gr8Bullet 02-11-2010 07:05 PM

get a torque gun...... 3 new bolts from Home Depot is good to.

pup 02-11-2010 08:09 PM

another question.....are the bolts threaded too ...got a breaker bar but theres not enough room with the socket head and the adapter for the socket

Rote8 02-11-2010 08:14 PM

Tuna fish removes my cat from almost anywhere.

pup 02-11-2010 08:18 PM

great reply....ur have been a tremendous amount of help spewing your infinite knowlegde and wisdom upon us meager peasants,,,,,,sarcasm

TeamRX8 02-11-2010 08:20 PM

Always use 6-point sockets, not 12-point

be sure and put anti-sieze on prior to threading the nuts on the install, never happen again

Jon316G 02-11-2010 08:24 PM

I assume you are trying to remove the front nuts.
If you can't fit a breaker bar in there, you can use a wrench (like you tried before) with a good pipe to act as a breaker bar (referred to as a cheater bar).
Simply insert the wrench's handle into the pipe.
Obviously, don't try a copper pipe ;)

pup 02-11-2010 08:26 PM

lol.....ive got 2 of the front nuts removed ,,,,the bottom and right side one.....third one is still on as well as all the bolts are still attached.....i might have to take it and have them removed

JantzenRX-8 02-11-2010 08:26 PM

When i installed my mid-pipe i sheared one of the bolts it was seized so bad. It was very frustrating.

Rote8 02-12-2010 03:56 AM

There is always a side grinder for the bottom two bolts and a hack saw blade for the top bolt.

pup 02-12-2010 07:58 PM

finally got it off.... i drove around and let it get hot and they all came off easily....put my new midpipe on....ive got a rattle but im sure i can fix it....gonna get sum new hangers cuz it rattles when it gets hot,,,,,,,so i might go with some smaller ones
