Car won't turn off!

Took my '06 MT (38K Km) out of storage on Saturday, washed and waxed her and drove to a friends that is about 45 km (27mi) away, it was 6 deg Celcius (43 Far.)

When i got there and turned the car off and i noticed that the engine was still running and didn't go off until i turned my lights off.

When i turned it back on, the CEL was on. At my next stop, the same thing happened but this time when i let off the clutch (insteading of turning the lights off), the car jerked forward and stalled.

Drove it back home on Sunday morning with the CEL, which didn't turn on when i started her up next.

The issue showed itself again when i drove her at night! CEL back on.

Does anyone know of any reason why she doesn't like being driven at night?

Update: The dealer found a jumper wire to keep the fog lights on at all times. (I bought this car used recently, something the previous owner/ dealership wired).
My theory is that the Mitsubishi dealer i bought it from decided to do this instead of taking it to a Mazda dealer (although still under warranty!) to account for a damaged module. (High beams didn't work)
The Mazda dealer replaced the module and removed the 'aftermarket' wires. Still unsure as to whether the initial problem is rectified, but this is a start

Other pieces of information that may be useful:
Have a smart-key system, so am turning just the knob (no-key) to turn on/off the car
My high beams don't work anymore (though i am not sure whether that something that has newly transpired)
Stored for the winter with a full tank of gas and recent oil change
Increased tire pressure by 10 kPa during storage

I spent hours searching for similar issues, but could have been using the wrong keywords.

HELP!!

Thanks,

I have never heard of something like that. the only time i have had that issue is when my viper security system was messed up. but it sounds like something electrical is messed up. go to autozone and get them to pull the code. maybe someone on here can help. good luck man.

This has to be something electrical, maybe something with the smart key. Is the smart key from the dealer, or aftermarket? I would think that there may be a blown fuse causing your headlights not to work.

The smart key is OEM and came with the car. Car is bone stock.

I agree that its probably something electrical. Confirmed today that issue only presents itself when using headlights

Does the car have over 40,000 miles on it?
If not take it to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

I would definatly bring it to the Dealer for this one. Some how the ignition must be tied into the headlights somewhere, causing the car to think the ignition is in the on position if the headlights are on. This is a WTF:Eyecrazy: issue that the dealer should take care of. Any recent service from a dealer?

I do still have my bumper to bumper warranty.

Took her into the dealership and I couldn't recreate the issue. The CEL went off in the morning.

On a side note, the pointed out yesterday that there was a recall on Oil Cooler hoses on my car so I had them replace all 5.
Come out from the office today and there are puddles of oil under each oil cooler..:eyetwitch

I'm now back at the dealership and they've decided to replace the oil coolers all together.

This is all unrelated to the original problem.. but who doesn't love drama.

At least the guys here are nice (Ontario Mazda, at 401 and Dixie), though i'm concerned about their competence. *scared face*

The recall involved replacing the fender liners and replacing the oil cooler lines if corroded. I guess they were having corrosion issues here, probably due to salt on the roads in the winter.
