Car Won't Start this morning? Why?
 

I tried to start my car this morning, and all it did was turn over and over. after about 10 seconds the dash lights goes out and comes back on. It doesnt sound slow. I just bought a new battery maybe year and half ago. I dont know too much about cars anyway. But could water have gotten into something? computer? starter?

Maybe also Flooded? never had this issue before any help?

Could be flooded, did you move it a short distance while engine was cold the night before?

Im stuck as`well, it pured rain 2 days ago and then it froze over night, mine starts ( sort of ) then dies... tries again ju`st turns over and dies, it cannot seem to hold an idle. did it rain the night before and freeze afterwards ?

yes i started it backed it up and moved it forward less than 2 minutes less than 10 feet probably and when i turned it off just kinda made a weird noise. also i have no idea about water. it poured down rain and the spout was directly pouring on the bottom of the windshield but i dont think anything is exposed enough for water to get anywhere. it turns over fine just over and over and over. the white lights on the dash go off after like 10 secs of cranking it but let go of the key and comes right back on.

It is flooded...is it stick or auto? It's not flooded from water it's flooded from too much gas in engine.

stick...... any way to know for sure, or how do I try to unflood it without tearing something up?

you able to pop the clutch on a 2004 rx8? never tried it besides some old cars? would it work? or other suggestions...I dont want to take it somewhere and spend a ton of money if something I can do?

Yes you can pop the clutch in second gear if you get it moving good. In the manual there is a de-flooding procedure where you push the gas peddle down all the way then hold it there as you turn the key for 10 seconds. Look there for the full procedure....if you have it. It is on this forum too.

My money is on the engine being flooded. When I first bought my car, I pulled it in from the driveway, into the garage. Was about 10 ft and the car ran for like 15 seconds. Went on a 3 day camping trip and when I got home my shiny new car would crank and crank and crank but not start. Wasn't too happy, but I put some jumpers on a running car, to my car, and followed the deflood procedure. Took me awhile the first time, the second time when someone else flooded it for me, I had it running in a minute.

Let your car warm up before you shut down, or hold it at 3k rpms for a few seconds while shutting down. I haven't had a problem since. Good luck.

I tried to hook it up the another car, and took the fuel fuse out as well as pushed the acclerator all the way in. and did it for 15-20 minutes the first night, last night i tried it for about 10 and still no start, its sounds right there. I called the dealership they said 109 dollars to deflood it. Is this worth it? any other options? did I not do something right? I dont want to spend that money to fix something so simple. Help

I don't remember having to take any fuses out. Also, I'm pretty sure there is a deflooding page in the owners manual... I can remember looking, and finding it in there... i think.... it was a while ago though so I could be wrong.

The trick is to crank with the accelerator on the floor for a few seconds, after those few seconds, ease off the accelerator and it should sound like it wants to start. Don't take your foot completely off the gas pedal unless it has started, but you have to gauge it with you foot on the pedal, if that makes any sense.

Took me a while my first time too.

Also, don't crank for extended periods of time, it could burn out the starter.

Instead of screwing around.................since it's a manual, do as someone suggested.
Tow start it at 18mph in 2nd gear and let the clutch out. When it does fire up, shift to nuetral and keep it running.....don't let it stall.
Once it's warm..............then take it for a good high spirited drive!

Oh.....................read your manual...........and don't shut it off cold again! :wallbash:
