Car started, turned off, now just the security light

Okay, here's what happened.

Walk to my 04 Rx8 (manual) to go get lunch.
Start the car (no problems)
Roll down the windows
Adjust Radio
Lower e-brake
Put car into reverse
Start rolling out of parking spot a little and lightly tap on my brake
Car shuts off, no radio, no warning lights, only the security indicator flashing relatively slowly

I know what you are thinking "THE BATTERY DIED!". It's a relatively new battery, headlights and all lights in the vehicle work fine.

What isn't working - Starting the car. No sounds, nothing happens when I put the key into the ACC *OR* ON position.

The key that I'm using has worked consistently for over 10 years now. I can't roll my windows back up! What should I be doing here!?

Note - I checked other threads, and I didn't see any where the radio wasn't turning on either.

Edit: Power door locks/turn signals/emergency lights all working as well.

Start checking fuses, especially the engine fuse.

Semi-Update - Ignition fuse # 20 was bad. So I'm going to attempt to drive home without a horn. Horns are over-rated.

Another update - Ignition fuse pops when I put the car in reverse. It's cool, I don't really need reverse anyway. Thoughts?

If you keep popping fuses, you have a short somewhere. Try isolating the problem by grabbing yourself a bag of proper fuses and see what exactly triggers the short.

Reminds me of when I had a short with my BHR coils. Check this thread out if you have BHR coils.

Who needs a fuse? Fuses are over-rated any way, right?

Automagic or manual?

If manual, check the connector for the reverse switch coming out of the transmission. You'll have to get under the car. IIRC, they'll be on the passenger side, near the rear O2 sensor.

A friend and I both had problems with the IGN KEY fuse after swapping S2 gearboxes into our S1 cars. Turns out, we didn't secure those wires well enough so they contacted the exhaust and shorted out.
