car dies when put in reverse
Hey everyone, just need some help with this. So whenever I put my car in reverse it completely dies. My ignition fuse Burns out every time. I have no idea what it could be. If anyone has ever had this problem please help. If anyone has any suggestions feel free to help. Thanks. ;)

Bump!
|
check your torque converter settings.
|
How do I do that?
|
torque conver? hes not auto
|
likely
short in rev pos sensor or rev lights or harness.. beers  |
Paging Easy! Maybe you could help me out with this?
|
Have you done any work with your tail lights lately?
Its a pretty simple circuit, you just need to start tracing where the short is. |
No I haven't done any work to them. Lights are all stock. But it turns out my reverse lights don't come on anymore ether. Only in reverse the ignition fuse blows.

If it were me troubleshooting, I would start at a middle point to know which direction I should start tracing.
The wiring to that tail lights have a main harness on the driver's side of the trunk. Disconnect that harness and try to put the car in reverse and see if the fuse blows. Attachment 154639 If it doesn't, you know there is a short between that harness connector and one of the back-up lights. Then I believe there are two connectors that run to each bulb (few inches from them). Same thing, disconnect the harness and see if it blows. Eventually... you'll find the section of wire causing the short. Now yes, you could test for shorts with a meter. But I assumed you weren't knowledgeable on using one. |
Joe it sounds like some good advice has been given. Check the electrical wiring as mentioned by Jon316G.
Do you own a Multi Meter? I suppose I should ask if you've had any experience in the electrical field. It appears that a positive wire for the reverse circuit is grounding. Whether or not it's due to an actual wire shorted or possibly the reverse switch shorted is going to take some testing to figure out. |
Thanks guys I'll give that a try right now and report back.
|
Not having reverse is killing me.... I hope this works. Easy I think my buddy has one I could use.
|
At jrx trying to figure this thing out. Pulled the main tail light harness and still blew a fuse. Pulled out the Multi meter and still can't figure it out. :(
|
Okay all is well and I can reverse once more thanks to jrx. It was the reverse switch on the transmission that was grounding itself. Something was loose inside causing the switch to short circuit the ignition fuse. replaced it and its working fine.
|
good stuff joey. glad you got it fixed.
|
Danny, I don't even know there was a reverse switch till they pulled it out. Lol
|
wow,
sorry i missed that! beers  |
guess it wasn't the torque converter settings LOL

There was someone with this same problem that had a long year old thread, they never really fixed it, they just undid the harness and drove their car with no reverse lights..
Very recent also.. gotta find the thread. |
