3.5 in the manual . but im barley tickling the bottom of the dipstick ?

make sure that the dip stick is inserted into the tube correctly ... fully seated... :naughty:

It is possible to drain more than 3.5 litres because the engine holds around 7
How full was it when it was drained? how much was drained?

I think you're asking about how much oil to put in after draining.

I get about 4 quarts out, but it can vary some if the car isn't level, so just put about 3.5 liters or quarts back in, and keep checking the dipstick while adding small dribbles of oil.

This is not a car that someone can read the manual to find a set amount of oil in re install.

The oil system holds maybe up to 7.7 QUARTS.

7.7 gallons ? wtf , what oil pan are you using ?
