A/C leak, found leak, pic posted, how do I fix?
 

I have been dealing with a slow leak in my a/c for weeks now, finally got around to putting dye in the system and found the leak. This is where the a/c goes through the firewall, just below the low pressure port. I tried tightening up that bolt, but it leaked again the next day....anyone know if there is a gasket at this connection? Any ideas on how to fix this?

If you remove the bolt you can pull the tube back. Inside you will find an oring. These loose their sealing elasticity over time. Just replace with new o ring and evacuate system and recharge.

Super glue? No, i'm just kidding. Anyway, try it, it might help, not sure though.

Don't forget to lube the o-rings with refrigeration oil and don't overtighten the bolt. :)

Make sure you get A/C orings normal black ones won't work. Should be green colored.

The ones I pulled out were black, why not replace with black ones?

Anyone know what size these are, ordered some green ones from rockauto, and every one I replaced is leaking...

actually that doesn't look like my system. This is more accurate and it only shows 1 oring, which is what I found when taking it apart...

That info is off the Mazda parts system with msrp prices. Checked 2004, 2008, and 2009 models and they all show a double o-ring there. Maybe this is why you have a leak :dunno:

most current day A/C systems use HNBR o-rings(the light green colored o-rings are HNBR) which can take the abuse, don't just grab any type of o-ring as most will deteriorate in the system and leak again in the near future.

use either mazda OEM o-rings from the dealership or HNBR o-rings from an a/c system repair kit, as mentioned dip them in some ester oil before assembling.

some manufacturers use nitrile o-rings which are black but aren't quite as sturdy as the hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber(HNBR) o-rings.

if you aren't sure on the exact sizing, slightly larger is better than slightly smaller in most cases except nodular fit, compression fit can adopt slightly larger seals so long as they're not massively larger or you will warp flanges.

Well I found the right HBNR o-rings and they fixed the leak, but now I see the 61-461 hose is leaking. Looking for an OEM replacement now for that hose. The leak is at the connection of the metal to hose section....

a local hose company may be able to repair that for you

okay guys, thanks for all the help, got all the leaks fixed, replaced the hose, pressure port valve and orings, been a week and I think it is holding pressure good now. Here is my issue though, it gets warm at high speed! I can be at a light and it is so cold I have to turn it down, but when I get to 55+ it is warm air blowing....My thinking is the pressure of the system is incorrect and so when it gets to higher speed and thus higher pressure, the system is not pressured correctly and I get bad cooling and at lower speed the pressure is correct so it cools good. I pressurized the system myself using canned a/c (after pulling a vacuum on the system). If I put the pressure in the service manual it seems low (~20psi) and does not cool. I am kinda at my ends wit with this and thinking of taking it in to get it properly charged, just wanted to see what some people think.....

How much freon did you put into the system?

I took it into a shop this morning, they said all the freon is going out of the compressor blow off valve. He thinks its a clogged expansion valve. I need to search and see if anyone else has this problem on here...

if u had a leak u should always replace the expansion valve ...
