Burning Smell From New Clutch

My original clutch died, so I bought an ACT "street duty" performance clutch from BHR along with a lightened flywheel, as the transmission shop said the old one warped from heat from the clutch slipping. The shop installed the new clutch and I've had it back a little over a week. Every time I drive, when I get out I smell that distinct smell a clutch has when you really roast it, except I've been driving normally. The clutch feels fine, really grabs hard in fact. Is this normal for a new clutch to smell like this as it wears in or is something wrong with it?

The shop didn't explain the break in procedures to you? Usually don't slam on it for 300 to 500 miles and expect to smell burnt toast for awhile. Check with them or the info that likely came with your clutch for specifics.

It's hard to diagnose from afar. Maybe the general rotary engine heat is causing the fresh organic clutch material to off-gas, which should go away in time.

Was an OE-replacement clutch not available? Just wasn't sure why you'd pay a higher price for a clutch that well exceeds the necessary requirement for this engine?
