Burned Clutch?

I tried to perform a burnout...................needless to say I failed :/ I pushed clutch all way then shifted into 1st gear and revved the engine to 4k rpm and let the clutch go and depressed gas and brake all way. I noticed strange smell and smoke so I stopped and so did my clutch. My car is not moving anymore :/ Is that clutch dead? Is it possible to cool it off over night or I need to change it?

your clutch my friend is toast , unless its the drive shaft that broke, but I think thats made out of carbon fiber !! I think, so its difficult to break. but you mentioned of a smell so it has to be your clutch burning.

ahaha, I like how confused he came out of that corvette

kondypl 02-12-2011 10:35 PM

The corvette video basically shows my story :/ How much is changing clutch? I do have extended warranty on the clutch do you think its gonna be covered? Also please tell me why I burned clutch not the tires :/ I dont wanna do it again

lordagrabah 02-12-2011 10:41 PM

I didn't think that the stock clutch would go off of a 4k rpm launch. How many miles on it?

Speed_8 02-12-2011 10:53 PM

`make sure you do not tell them how it went off, say you were driving and then all of a sudden you starting smelling smoke. Working for mazda taught me that.

kondypl 02-13-2011 12:49 AM

Thanks for advice , I know I have to make up story for mazda, I did start at 4k rpm but then I went up till I noticed smoke n smell.... Why this that happend? What did I do wrong?

well maybe it was already weak.

kondypl 02-14-2011 12:47 AM

Maybe it was but after I fix that now Ill be scared to enthusiastically start lol or to try burnout again.... :/

kondypl 02-14-2011 12:15 PM

Just called in Mazda dealer , and the salesman that sold me the car is not there right now , he specifically said that because someone had problem with clutch before there is extended warranty on my clutch. I talked to someone in service and they said they don't see anything like that! Im waiting for that salesman to call me back :/ I hope we'll figure way to cover that with warranty , if not I already found guy who can replace that clutch , he called 400$ labor and 500$ parts... but I really dont wanna spend that $900 :(

kondypl 02-14-2011 06:24 PM

Mazda Dealer wouldnt replace it under warranty and they wanted $3k for it!!!! I had someone else to do it for me tho for $900....... It was saved up for new rims :(((

You can do a burn out, just don't drop the clutch and slam the brakes lol. I don't do them either though.

That corvette video was amazing. The best part was all his buddys sitting there watching him and knowing the tires are not moving but not telling him as the car is smoking.

kondypl 02-15-2011 09:46 PM

Screw that I aint trying to do burnout again!! I got updates on my car, So the clutch of course was a toast and the guy said that flywheel doesn't look good either :/// He said he sand in it down , Do you guys think that I should buy new flywheel or Ill be good if he just sands it down??

Speed_8 02-15-2011 09:49 PM

new... since your tranny is already open might as well... i'll save you cash from doing it later in case it does crap out and it costs you more labor

kondypl 02-15-2011 09:53 PM

If I just drive normally , no stupid shit , no racing , would it be ok tho? Im just asking because I dont have another $500 just lying around :/ Where can I buy flywheel for good price anyway?

Speed_8 02-15-2011 10:23 PM

Depending on the job the guy does right... but `who knows you may get the itch to drive and it may go, just saying it would save you labor doing it now, search the net.... check these guys out give them a call and see what they say

Thanks man , I jest left it as it is.... I dont have money for flywheel now ,
We'll see how it goes till summer , I was thinkin about going to track and try racing when it gets nice and warm.

lordagrabah 02-16-2011 11:41 AM

For future references, you can find stock flywheels for under 200. I bought a centerforce dual friction clutch and oem flywheel for under 500. Add in a couple hundred for labor and you should be still under a grand.

kondypl 02-16-2011 12:03 PM

We will see what future brings , I paid $400 for labor and $500 for clutch , so it came out to be $900 plus towing. Maybe I could of get clutch little cheaper but I couldn't wait cuz of school and work and I dont have any other car to drive, btw where can I get oem flywheel for under $200??

lordagrabah 02-17-2011 11:21 AM

This is where I got mine from http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200.../flywheel.html

Razz1 02-17-2011 11:23 AM

Probably the clutch bracket.
