Broken side view mirror, need help with wiring diagram.

I went to Rock The Bells last weekend and when i came back to my car, the passenger side view mirror was broken off, hanging by the wire, and the car next to me gone. Anyways i temporarily ordered some mirrors off ebay that actually fit and look quite nice.

I removed the broken mirror, which turned out to be a lot more work than i though because the whole door panel had to be removed. After removing the old connector i noticed it had five wires and was different than that of my new mirrors, which had four. I can cut and solder the mazda connector onto my new mirror but i dont know which wire does what. Does anyone have a wiring diagram or know what each wire does? I have included pics of the mazda side view mirror connector as well as the new one. The first pic is the mazda with five wires(2 purple, a blue, a black, and a red) and the second pic is the one i bought with four wires(a white, a blue, a black, and a brown). Anyone have any info on what each wire is? I have asked the company what each of their four wires does so hopefully i get a response back from them.

Also, i found this wiring diagram from http://rx8.no-ip.org/manual.htm which is below but i cannot seem to figure it out. Any help is much appreciated.

Review the attached diagram.
This is much more descriptive.
Look at the bottom and find L1-02... this is the connection at the passenger side power mirror.

If you want to inspect the operation of the mirror, review the follow attachment.
Notice that a fifth wire (labeled as "A") is for the mirror's heater. This would probably explain why your new mirror only has four wires... because there is no heater installed.

Some of the RX-8's don't come with heated mirrors so it doesn't really matter if the fifth wire is used or not.

I hooked up the mirror however, when i went to move it with the switch, my head unit and nav shut off. I tried to turn them back on but nothing happens. I disconnected the mirror but still nothing works. I dont know what happened or how just moving the mirror could shut everything off, but now nothing works. None of my audio, nav or AC controls work. The only thing i can do is adjust my fan speed and eject cd's. Anyone know what wrong or am i gonna have to put everything back and act stupid at the dealership?

It's too late to act stupid.....

Looks like you blew the fuse.

Actually, i checked all of the fuses, the driver side and under the hood. Everything looks fine but none of my radio stuff works. When i said act stupid i meant i would go to the dealership, tell them my car was hit, and then all my radio stuff stopped working and ask that it is replaced under warrenty. Any others ideas what it could be or should i just try to have it done under warrenty?

I know that you mentioned checking all the fuses, but double check them, specifically the #2 fuse (7.5A) in the fuse panel and the #8 fuse (30A) in the fuse block (under the hood). Both of these deal with ACC.

Thanks a lot for your help. It turns out it was the #2 fuse. When i said i checked the fuses, i didnt remove all of them but just the 20A audio fuse, since none of my audio stuff was working. This is great news because now i don't have to deal with the dealership because i know they would've given me shit for having a dvd player and back-up cam hooked up to my nav and probably blamed that as my problem and maybe even voided my warrenty. Once again thanks everyone for your help.

I found the wiring instructions on the internet for the mirror i bought. Anyone know which wire to connect where on the mazda connector? Once again the mazda mirror has five wires(2 purple, a blue, a black, and a red) and the one i bought has four wires(a white, a blue, a black, and a brown). Any ideas on which wire to connect where by looking at the wiring diagram given by jon316g?

Here are the instructions for my mirrors.

So I've been studying the diagrams (instead of working) for awhile and it appears that they are using electron flow notation instead of conventional (negative-to-positive instead of positive-to-negative)
If thats the case, attached is how to wire the connector (assuming you are going to pin/crimp the wires onto the connector from the stock mirror).
Now the stock mirror is grounded through the connector, but it appears that your new mirror has it's own ground cable (probably with a ring terminal), so don't worry about the ground going to the connector (or the fifth wire for the optional mirror heater).
I'm still wondering how you blew the fuse. Did you short two wires?
Did the fuse blow when you tried to move the mirror in a certain direction? If so, then maybe your new mirror is drawing more current.
I'm curious what others from this forum think about this. Anyone agree/disagree?

I connected blue to blue, black to black, and brown to brown the first time i hooked it up. When i went to move the mirror my nav unit and HU shut off, which was caused by a blown fuse. I'll try the connections you stated and see if that works.

my mirrors have six wires, but I'm having a hard time findin a six-wire replacement, anyone know what's up?
