Broken Eccentric Shaft? help!

Hey guys it's been awhile

Was driving the Rx-8 today and I had made a quick shift from 1st to 2nd @ high rpm, when I slowed down I heard this whirring/flapping noise and I have no idea what it is.

Anyway, if I rev the car in neutral with or without the car in gear the noise isn't there. But when I'm in gear, especially in 1st, the noise is very apparent, sounds like it's coming from the middle of the car. The noise comes when upon acceleration and deceleration but it goes away if I maintain the same rpm, the second I let off or accelerate though the noise comes right back.

Could it be the eccentric shaft, an axle? my transmission? I have no idea. Doubt it's the flywheel, maybe a piece of the clutch broke?
Any info on this would be appreciated!

The throwout bearing (release bearing) is very likely the cause of your problem.

Alright, I'm currently uploading a vid of the car on youtube, I'll post it the second its uploaded.

Thanks I hope it's that, hopefully it shouldn't be TOO expensive. Never heard such a noise coming from a car before too lol

here is the video

either your clutch is slipping pretty bad or your throwout bearing spit up. most likely throwout bearing cuz if it's clutch, the sound/noise is different.

jack the car up and start working already !

Definitely not the eccentric shaft.....the motor wouldn't run if it was :)

Does it make the noise with the clutch pushed in?

Sounds like something in the transmission or drive shaft or diff

Throwout bearing usually only makes noise when your foot is on the clutch

If you broke a U joint on the driveshaft it could make noises like that...or it could be a CV joint in an axle....or the tranny or diff

Hey i just went to the garage
And my mechanic had said it sounds like the plate that connects to the tranny and engine sounds like it is loose and that is wat causes the flapping noise. Hopefully its just that :s

If your mechanic thinks that the flywheel is loose...you might want to find another one ;)

will if it was a U Joint, wouldn't it make the noise even in neutral? Because my problem only happens upon acceleration or deceleration, if it stays at a constant rpm or speed it will not make the noise. In neutral its fine there is no noise whatsoever... Maybe pressure plate broke IDK cuz that's the only thing that really connects to the tranny to the engine to keep everything in place. Unless im completely wrong lol.

Often U-joints and CV joints like in the axles make noises only when loaded or unloaded. In front wheel drive cars they often do it only when the wheel is turned a bit

If the flywheel was loose...it would wobble all the time and you would know something is very wrong :)

noise varies by rpm only - must be engine, clutch, transmission input or counter shafts

noise varies by speed only - must be transmission output shaft, drive shaft, differential, axles, or hubs

sounded like rpm only to me so likely transmission, probably countershaft bearings. Accelerating and decelerating heavily loads the countershaft in either direction due to the helical bevel of the gears.

the trans oil drain plug has a magnet, a failing trans will show a lot of metallic debris on it

and don't use that garage/mechanic

Sorry for the late update I've been really busy especially with this car situation. You got it on the dot sir thanks for the help. They checked out the car and it's the transmission that's blown... Had more time to drive the car and it makes that noise in every gear except 5th.
Getting the transmission replaced for 1000$ installed with 1 year warranty. Hopefully everything else is in good shape and just the train itself needs to be changed

Yeah lol I've already had a transmission blow before but this time every single gear worked, last time1st and 4th only worked so I'm really lucky it's still drive able to the garage
