blue smoke & oil in air breather

just had engine replaced by mazda about two months ago now i have intermitting blue smoke & there is oil in the breather filter where could it be from is there a simple fix or should i take it back to mazda "(2004 winning blue one of the first 10,000 built) according to the vin #.

I would take it back to the dealer and have them tell you why it's doing what it's doing.
Then come back here and let us know the results of their diagnosis.
So we can scrutinize there observations.
I think you might have a bad engine. Hard to say with out more information.
Does it do it on start up only? Does it do it under acceleration? Does it do it on deceleration? Does it do at an idle? Is it for sure blue? Not white, black?

it does it sometimes @ startup but it clears up driving it does it when accelerating sometimes & not when deceleration sometimes at idle yes it is blue no dout there is oil in between the maf sensor & the air filter in the spirng like tube & inthe hose from the oil filler cap & the breather tube to the intake

Sounds like a little to much internal pressure in the engine. Could be due to a bad set of oil control rings. Again as stated I would go to the dealer and discuss it with them.
Also as mentioned in your other, very similar thread, it could be from them filling the engine oil to fast. Oil can get backed up into the vacuum tube that goes to the air intake from the oil fill neck.

i also have not had to put any oil in since i had it back

Easy_E1 01-08-2010 03:48 PM

How often do you check the engine oil? And what was the level when you received the car from the dealer? How many miles have you put on the car since you got it back from the dealer?

MRPN 01-08-2010 03:53 PM

i check it every time i fill with gas & i put about 3000 miles since i had it back fixing to change the oil in ti for the first time also

Easy_E1 01-08-2010 03:58 PM

So your saying the oil level has not dropped for 3000 miles. I mean from it's original point on the dipstick after you picked it up from the dealership?

MRPN 01-08-2010 04:03 PM

yes it has droped but not much at all (not for 3000 miles) from what it did before i had to change the orignal engine

Go to the dealer and tell them what your dealing with. Have them clean out the intake and MAF sensor while your at it. That way they have a record of it. Change the engine oil and keep an eye on it. Then keep an eye on oil level/consumption from then on.
Right now it's leaning towards them filling it to fast and over filling it.

+1 on easy1. I feel you would normally go through at least a qt in 3K miles. Did you check the oil level when you picked it up? There are 1.8 gts. between the two marks on a Rotary engine.

i have changed the oil and cleaned the breather & maf. sensor there has not been any smoke yet. thanks alot for your replies hope all goes well for you guys thanks again. will keep updating about the smoke situation.

From a quick glance it sounds like someone over filled the oil at some point. This will get oil on the MAF and on the inside of the air filter. If you are still under warranty there is a TSB for the oil blow back tube connecting to the maint. ports on the side of the engine instead of the intake. If you are out of warranty an oil catch can will do the job.
