Blown Engine Fuse

Okay, so the other day I was driving in third gear pulling up to a stop sign when my engine spontaneously shuts off. All the lights were on, just the engine died. I tried jumping it, but after checking the battery it had good voltage. After checking my fuses I found that I had blown the 15a engine fuse. I replaced it and the car started after a long, slow crank. Then smoke started pouring from the engine area under the alternator. I shut the car off and tried again to start it, this time with no smoke. Does anyone know what could have caused this?

It should be noted that I finished an install on a new subwoofer a day or so before this transpired. It's a 10" running on a 500W amp. I mistakenly had the power supply attached to the 120a main fuse blot in the fuse box, because I wasn't really thinking. I'm not sure if the sub had anything to do with this problem though. Does anyone know if there's overlap in those two fuse circuits that could have routed excess power to the engine fuse? Thanks guys.

Mine shorted out and popped a fuse just a few days ago when I installed a new alternator and some wires got in the way of my water pump pulley and got nicked. So I would check for some wires that aren't secured properly maybe shorting out somewhere with your newly installation.
