Blinking Engine Light
 

Well i was runnin my 8 last night and during a run close to 3rd gear redline my engine light started blinking and i immediately slowed and pulled over. As soon as i started slowing down the light went away and hasnt reappeared. Does anyone know what was going on?

That is a misfire. Your ignition system is weaking / failing. Probably your coils, possibly your plugs or wires. If you are around or over 30,000 miles since the last time they were changed, best bet is to change them all out. Don't let a dealer rape you on fees, easy to do yourself.

Could be a misfire, without knowing the CEL code we can only guess.

Its definatley sounds like a misfire. Mine did that before my coils gave out.

hmmm well i bearly got my 8 back not that long ago i had got a brand new engine in it, im bearly over 1k miles on the new motor.

Things you can try in no order.

Reset the ECU.
Check for loose plug wires or even a cracked plug.
They could have messed up the order of the spark or coil wires.
Unless you ask they will take the OLD plugs from your last engine and put them in the new one. depending on the miles on them it could be the plugs.
How many miles on the coils?

im not exactly sure i bought the car at about 38000 miles i wasnt told if they were new or not, the my new engine got put in at exactly 42k and now its a little over 43k

Just to note, a flashing mil is a pending code. The code only gets stored for the current drive cycle and if the condition does not repeat, it is not stored.

Rear rotor misfires are pretty common and it is not immediately necessary to get all hot and bothered. I would adopt a "wait-and-see" approach to insure you do not fix something that is not broken. They are also usually easily remedied through replacement of coils and plugs and also potentialy wires.

I would do the coils, plugs, and wires anyway. Just because you got a rebuild doesn't mean they were done and its about time.

When you get a new engine they use the plugs and coils from you old one. Basically the only thing new is the bottom half of the engine as they re use your upper intake manifold and etc. When I got my new engine the only reason they changed my plugs and wires was because I went and bought aftermarket so they could just throw them on when they were dropping the engine in. Also my coils failed 2.5k miles after the new engine so that is also proof they use the old ones. As for misfires as quoted above it is common to have misfires on a rotary engine here and there especially when you get ahold of some cheap gas.
