blinking check engine light?

So I was doing some high rpm highway driving for some routine carb deposit cleaning ^_^ and my check engine light started blinking for a good 3-4 seconds until i completely let off the throttle. Then all was well again with no check engine light. Does anyone know what a blinking light means?

Is your air filter really dirty? I have seen this at high rpm on the hwy with dirty *** aftermarket filters. Every car is different but I'm guessing it's a poor MAF reading.

thats a Engine Misfire code.

if its first time and no prior stored of the same code (Rotor 1 or 2), then it will just store in the memory. if it happens again in 3 or 5 drive cycle, the CEL will stay on solid that just wont go away. Hard reset required.

Engine Misfire is pretty common, unless your car is making *less* power, lots of idle issues, Stall for no reason. I wouldnt worry too much ( I had some too, never came back)

thanks guys! it was the first time that had happened so it got me a little worried. So misfires are common on rotaries?

Definitely misfires, but what's causing them? A blinking CEL is not good. It's a sign that the computer is seeing things that are potentially bad for the engine.

if you're talking about during the recall then yes I did....... well thats what was written on the service receipt that i received from dealer that is.......

The recall only replaced two of four spark plugs. Your others could possibly be original, which might be causing your problem.

The recall (or Engine No-Start TSB) will replace the 2 LEADING PLUGS ONLY. They will not even look at your Trailing plugs.

So, IMO, if the recall plugs are about hmm at least 15 K miles by now. change it all. It cost about 80 something bux if you decided that you want to do it yourself. Reason is that, stock plugs are *bad bad* about 30K. if you're already 1/2 way there, why not do it all at the same time, at least you get another 20 something K of happy motoring.

If the recall plugs are fairly new (like less than 10K) , just replace the Trailing plugs, 40 something bux.

Dont let the blinking light scares you.

Misfire is pretty common in all modern engines. hell you really expect it to be 100% accurate when its spinning at couple thousand rpm at all times ?

Of course, if its *too much*, then the ECU will throw something out to show you that its seeing something *Wrong*. it could be serious issue. but most lilkely nothing to worry about, other than plugs/coils/plug cables/bad gas/dirty air filters/etc etc

Had the same thing this evening.... 5th gear, nearing 200 Kmh, and i got a blinking light and the car wouldn't rev further... slowed down, and the light went away.

Bit later i got a little hickup at 6k rpm, bt only 1 time. No problems after that...

It was raining a bit btw... not sure if thats relevant.

Did 220 once without problems btw...

C'mon....a blinking CEL is just that...........a blinking CEL, you can tell nothing from that with the exception of....1.) It saw something it didn't like............2.) It is possibly a misfire, since others have read the stored codes and more times than not, that's it............but not always.

Ok i'm guessing the misfire....

Coils have been replaced once because of flooding.... not many km's after that...

Can't be overheating, 7 degrees Celcius, and I was driving for 15 minutes or so.

And i've cleaned the MAF one week ago, and reset the ECU (brake 20 times)

Octane 95 atm.... normally 98....

How long on all four plugs?

Could be wires. Could be a failed engine. Need more info.

Actually when you turn the key to "on" and not start the car, then pump the brake twenty times, the oil guage actually sweeps right as they say, but then it sweeps back to the left.............they don't say that and I know that happens.......correct? Then they say drive the car, but I was always told and did.........after it sweeps left, then turn the car off, wait a few seconds, then start it as normal and take a drive. Don't forget to not shut it down cold.

Plug change happened with the previous owner, but can't be more than 10k km's (like 7k miles)

where are you????

note.. you will get a cel on high speed runs if you are under .25 tank of gas...

coils dont get replaced for flooding plugs do..
