Battery issues even after main fuse replacement

My battery was dead so I swapped my spare rx7 battery in and it had corrosion over the markings and I accidentally hooked it up backwards for a second. I smelt smoke and quickly disconnected it but now the electrical system is just going crazy. I replaced the main fuse and the alarm goes off when I turn the key.:Wconfused

Check all fuse ... and hope for the best

dmedz8 04-14-2012 02:12 PM

all the fuses appear to be fine.

Is there anything else I can try? It did start but the alarm and hazard lights are stuck on...

Jon316G 04-14-2012 03:28 PM

My 8 does that a lot if I disconnect the battery for an extended period of time (like storing for the winter).
I always remove the HORN fuse so I don't piss-off the neighbors as the alarm is going off.
And I usually have to play this crazy dance where I turn the ignition to 'ON', turn it back off, remove the key, lock the doors (with the keyfob), then unlock the doors...
Eventually I manage to satisfy the alarm and the hazard lights quit flashing (meaning the alarm isn't going off anymore) and I can re-install the fuse for the horn.

I will definitely try that!^^^ I need to charge my battery for a while though.

The car starts and drives fine but the alarm is still going off.

dmedz8 04-14-2012 06:27 PM

It does go off after about 3 minutes of driving. My radio does not work at all and the whole electrical system seems to reset itself every time I start the car and the needles go crazy when I turn the key to on.

Have you checked the fuses in the kick panel inside the car?

The 15A ROOM fuse is a focus based on what you've mentioned thus far.
Many devices go off this fuse, such as the radio, instrument cluster, and keyless control module just to name a few.

Everything you mentioned is having problems so I will go check. Thank you!:wavey:

That was it! Thank you very much!

I have gone through 3 15a room fuses. They lasted about 2 hours each. What could be wrong?

Unfortunately, one of the circuits supplied by 'roomie' is the ECU, you may need a new computer to fully solve the prob.

Hooking it up backwards will do that.

I'd be tempted to increase the fuse to a twenty amp (stock is ten, not fifteen) but I'm impetuous and do dangerous stuff like that.....

Well I replaced it again with new fuse. My other replacements were old and looked a little corroded. This new one seems to be holding up just fine for now so We'll see if I can make it last!

Shoot!
You're right, J!
I've been telling people ten for the last eight years!

My excuse is I was thinking of the two ECU supply fuses, 10 amps. underhood.
...yeah, supply fuses, that's the ticket!

I think he was talking about the "EGI Comp1" and "EGI Comp2" 10A fuses
