B pillars purpose?

Please dont hate. this is a serious question.

Recently I was hit dead center between the passenger doors. It broke the locking mechanism between them, keeping them from being able to be opened. The front door was replaced and the rear door skin. The SHINKA B pillar( where most say rx8) outer piece was replaced, not due to damage but because the body man didnt want to reuse the old one because they are glued on and he wanted it to be right. Well it not right. Although I inspected the car, I didn't notice a little area protruding out in the pillar.it's like maybe something is forcing it out in one particular area about the size of a quarter. I have taken her through some pretty good twisties, since I got it back, and I dont know if this was there before or after, so my question is, does it have anything to do with the possibility that the doors are not perfect, or are those covers just cosmetic.

Someone told me there have been cases that the 8's have been totalled due to pillar damage....i just need to know if she is going to be safe to drive like I always do, like I stole it! :)
