ATF refill advice

Hello, long time lurker here

To provide a short narrative, today I decided to change my oil on my newly acquired 07 rx8. Being I've performed oil changes on 4-5 different types of vehicles, I wrongly assumed that I didn't need to find a DIY. I attributed what I thought would be the oil pan being further back to the nature of engine placement. Long story short I made an idiotic move and am now down 3.5 quarts of transmission fluid.

As I found in https://www.rx8club.com/trouble-shoo...k-06-a-232861/ there is no easy way to add transmission fluid.

Monday I will be contacting the Mazda dealership and probablly getting a ~60 mile tow. My only idea so far has been to remove the pan for the ATF, add 3.5 qts of new fluid, and install it back while replacing the gasket. This method seems like it could introduce other problems so I would prefer to avoid it. So, If anyone has had the misfortune of being in my shoes or has any other ideas on how I can access the transmission to add the fluid I would love to hear them.

Best,

Get a cheap transfer/siphon pump(Like this:Multi-Use Transfer Pump) and follow the procedure listed in the thread you linked.

Add it in the fill tube...until it runs out of the overflow....if you remove the pan you will never get it full because the pan doesn't hold all the oil...

A small hand pump ( looks like off a lotion bottle) that you can buy at the autoparts store will work..it's a bit slow but you can do it surprisingly fast

Thanks for the help! I will purchase a pump tomorrow and give it a try. Any idea what the fill line is covered by? I would assume a bolt + seal, but my assumptions lately have been off :cwm27:

Look at post #4 in the thread you linked the last two pictures show the overflow plug.

There's two plugs on the bottom of the pan, leave the drain plug in and remove the overflow plug.
Then fill it from the fill plug on the side of the trans until it starts to over flow from the bottom. Look at those pics and you'll understand what I'm saying.

Got it, thank you!
