antitheft,,, new keys wont program
The locksmith wiped all my keys and now they won't take into the ecus memory.
I have 2 keys one original and one newly cut and neither work. Has anyone had the ecu just randomly go out or does it sound like this guy is clueless ? |
Sounds like you are screwed. Time to visit the dealer. I would make him pay for it.
|
sorry, no idea. But, I think dealer is your next step as well. There is a link here about programming keys, but it requires 2 keys that already work.
|
If he wiped the keys from the system then the dealer is the only option to reprogram them.
|
If my ecu connects to my laptop via Mazda edit... Just fine... And the locksmith said the antenna right around the key was working... What other components could be bad if it isn't the key issue ??
|
unless there is some other hardware malfunction,
tell the locksmith to check BOTH keys , see if it has the same ID (hex code) if it does, it WILL NOT work. the system will NOT be able to program, you HAVE TO HAVE 2 different ID keys. if it's same ID, then just swap the chip in the key, depends on the key u have, the chip should be hidden under the Mazda logo (for early key-only 8, and flip key 8) , for CC type key it's at the tip, for the newer bar-type key, it's also at the top part. |
Mazda says they can't get the keys to reprogram. So they says I have wiring issues. How is this all a sudden ? Anyone had the antenna ring go out ?
|
Sounds like it is BS if it worked fine before the guy tried to program them. But then again most dealer techs are incompetent.
|
Well before the locksmith made a new key... My original stopped responding
|
OH, well then yeah it could be the module. Rare failure though.
|
I just bought a kcm off eBay. For $30 hopefully that's the problem... I also noticed when I left the car and I locked the doors. The lights didn't blink Ile normally when the alarm is set.

I replied to your pm. check
but I will repeat it here. make SURE both keys have DIFFERENT key ID(its a 4 digit hex code really), most locksmith when they make new keys for you, they usually just "copied" the current chip id and paste it over to your "new" key, sure both keys will work because they have the same ID, but if the system is wiped (which is your case), then the system will NOT register your keys because they have the same Exact ID, you WILL NEED 2 DIFFERENT ID keys or IT WILL NOT/NEVER work. When you do a wipe then program new keys command, the system will be like it's not doing anything (no flash lights nothing), but in fact it is reading the code. if your dealer is smart enough (sadly), then the tech should have checked for keys ID first. I have seen TONS of smart key owners , they have 2-3 keys and it's ALL the same code. it was made with the method I mention above. I have a feeling BOTH your keys having same ID, Locksmith should have a machine to read it. takes 5-10 seconds and it will be able to tell you what the current chip ID type is (I think RX8/most Mazda) 63, and it will also tell you what code it is (hex code). if it's same ID, pick the chip out from one of your current key, throw it away and tell the locksmith to give u a new/blank one, should cost less than 10-15 bucks for a new chip, it's a small tiny piece of black chip thing, then go back to program the car. |
btw, those ID chips in the key CAN fail. I seen it couple of times.
just pick it out, put a new one in, program, move on. |
Mazda said they can't get into the programing functions on my car due to a bad ignition key sensor .. they installed a new one and still doesn't work .... Someone fix this car or pm me for a phone call

Are all the lights on, but it won't turn over? |
It's completely normal except for a fast flashing immobilizer light .
Mazda wants to guess around for problems |
I gotta repeat this one last time. have they check the keys
there is no indicator of "oh I'm in programming mode" it will not show anything, period. only way you know is after you plug 2 keys in, end the progarmming, and it will prompt u to test it. |
