Air Conditioner Kills the 8

2004 AT 80k

The car runs fine without the AC when you turn the AC on it dies. Ive searched. and read most of the AC stalling threads but only a few specify that the AC kills the car and is more of a general stalling problem. I am planning to take it to a stealership on Monday. :/

When were your plugs, wires, and coils replaced with new ones?

Arca_ex 07-01-2012 02:35 AM

nycgps 07-01-2012 05:19 AM

I got the car about 3 month ago idk when the late plug, wire and coil was changed.the car was working fine I threw some seafoam in it the day I go it then about 1k later it developed the afternoon problem. I hope the Ac compressor isn't bad and I really hope the engine doesnt have low compression. And I reside in Miami Florida area. Why know a good reliable mechanic you can reccomend? Lol

paimon.soror 07-03-2012 07:25 AM

compression test before you bought it?

slvrstreak 07-03-2012 07:35 AM

if the coils, plugs, wires didnt help try a grounding kit
worked wonders for mine in the GA heat
mine would bog down with the AC on too

-Check Voltages
-Make sure alternator is working correctly
-Check Belts
-How is the idling?
-Good luck with that compression test

AND Florida

@ Z, What is wrong with Florida, it was a far as I could get from Oregon...

Grounds are a pain. In my sig is a set of recommendations on the first $100 to spend. Grounding kit is in there. Although indications are you can get the same benefit from just installing star washers under the ground points (see the thread). Want to be a test case?

If you rev the engine a bit, then turn on the AC, does it die, or will it just not idle with the air on?

zoom44 07-03-2012 05:58 PM

florida is one of the key factors;

florida/texas/az/lv + 04 + At = the loaded camel's back. 80k= the straw

If you can swing it, take it to the dealer and problem will be resolved quicker and easier. Less frustration and hassle. (I hate having problems drag out; that's just me.)

So i took it to a dealer the checked it nothing was wrong. They turned the ac on and the car did none of the symptoms i spoke about. He said it was probably bad GAS. He didn't even charge me since nothing was done to the car.

The cars working great not. But i do not know when the coils, plugs or spark plugs were last changed. So i do want to change them out. I saw a KIT on the forums that included all these three things. Im trying to search of it everywhere on the vendors section. It was some sort of ignition upgrade kit. Any know what referring too?

BHR ignition upgrade? http://www.blackhaloracing.com/colle...nition-upgrade

Cost is more than OEM coils, wires and plugs but is a one time expense (except plugs) while OEM coils only last about 30K miles.

If you still have any cash then get a Cobb AP.
You can lower fan turn-on temp, raise OMP injection, change dwell for BHR ignition, change idle speed, scale your MAF etc etc. as well as datalog many parameters for troubleshooting.

Thanks! thats the kit i was looking at before. Quick question The Plugs on the site are 80 more bucks are these plugs any different from normal plugs i would buy at autozone? If not what plugs are recommended after some searching i see rx8 strictly use cold iridium plugs that go for 180+?! should i just pay the extra 80 bucks on the BHR website?

There is only one set of plugs to get and $80 is a great price

You can probably see in my signature line that I am running BHR ignition among other mods...
