air box engine light

hey im a new member here and i just recently got my 04 6 speed 8 and i decided to check my filter, it turns out it was nasty, so i decided to call and order a new one but i would have to wait a couple days, so i put the dirty filter back in and my check engine light came on, keep in mind i disconnected the sensor on the airbox(because the manual said to) before i did this and i put it back on when finished.
Any help would be great,
thanx in advance .

By sensor do you mean the MAF that is located on the tube leading to the airbox? Did you start the car with it oof? If you did, you might have to do the ECU reset now that it's back on. I guess I would make sure you plug the sensor back in correctly first. Then after that, turn the key to ACC(don't start it) tap the brake pedal 20 times real fast until you see the oil guage sweep to the right and back to the lft. Then turn the key to off. Wait a few seconds and start it up. Remember....after you restart it to not shut it off until you reach normal operating temp. some poeple will just rev it to 3k and then shut it off, but I don't really like that method.

Yes, it will come back on if it needs to for any reason. It's not for sure that this will cure your problem anyway, but I would try it. If it doesn't, then you need to take the car somewhere and have the code read to see what it's not liking. Autozone will do it for free if you have on around you. YOu sure you didn't unplug anything else either on purpose or by accident?

IT WORKED, thank you very much, and its good to know that autozone can do that, i have one very close by, once again thank you very much

No problem.....glad I could help! Remember that technique, it will help in the future. There are a lot of threads on here about it. It's the ECU or PCM reset.
