Advanced Key problem in 2006 Shinka

My batteries went dead in both my Advanced Key remotes. It took me about a week to finally replace the batteries, so I just used the Aux Key in the meantime. After I replaced the batteries, my KEY indicator on the IP remains lit (red and constantly lit), and the proximity entry doesn't work anymore. The remotes both work like Keyless Remotes, and the car starts and runs with no problems (without a key in the ignition), but the proximity entry for the doors and trunk don't respond at all.

I tried the procedures I found on this forum for reprogramming the remotes (ignition on/off 3X, door switch 3X, etc.) but it hasn't worked. I'm not sure the Advanced Key programming works this way, as these might be the procedures for just the standard Keyless Remote. (???)

ANY HELP would be appreciated. Car is no longer under warranty, so I want to make sure this is or isn't the problem before I bring it in. If it's an antenna or something, then it is what it is, but I hesitate to believe that the AK system went bad at the same time as the batteries going dead! Too coincidental!

Nobody has any comments? Am I the only person that has experienced this problem with the Advanced key system???

Sorry man, when I changed my batteries, all was ok.... :dunno:

may simply not have been the batteries, ive seen the key memory just vanish in miatas, 6's, and 8's.

have you checked to make sure you put the batteries in correctly? Did you purchase the correct size? Are you sure the new batteries are actually working?

You mean our remotes get Alzheimers?

I better not forget this one. Need to subscribe.

not the remotes, but the memory of the key's unique ID is lost, happens sometimes when you have car battery problems, or in the case of more then a couple people i've seen, the memory simply blanks out of nowhere. pretty rare, but possible.

Just re-read the OP apparently i missed the fact that the remote lock/unlock still work, which rules out the memory being lost. as the remote and ignition part of the card are programmed together and when one fails the other does too.

The procedure you've read isn't for advanced keyless, as you correctly assumed.

Your gonna have to pull codes to figure this out probably.

Thanks Kevin! That was exactly the info I was looking for and from a certified RX-8 Tech, no less. (Not the answer I was HOPING for, but it is what it is) I'm an EE and there just isn't alot of posted info, anywhere, on the Advanced Key and how it really functions, programming-wise. Now I have a direction to pursue and will likely take it to the Dealer without thinking I'm chasing down a Black Hole!

Thanks again. That really settles my mind.

BTW, Thanks to all that posted a response. Even a guess is worthwhile sometimes!

n/p, should be a relatively easy "pull code, solve problem" situation, but never know.

kevin.
